Me yet again. I'm getting fairly good by now at taking pictures of myself

I arrived at the Grand Canyon at about midnight I believe. I must say I was surprised at how many trees there were. When I was thinking about the Grand Canyon and Arizona I never pictures it to be so green just outside the park. The next 2 pictures I took when I was leaving and thus are out of order.

Coming down this road at night I saw more deer here then anywhere else on my trip. There were literally hundreds of deer along the side of the road. Many would jump out in front of you as you got near. As soon as I spotted them I would hit the air horn and get them running. That seemed to work fairly well for keeping them away from me.

Once again the campground said full. I was able to find many open tenting spots though. I wrote down the list of reserved spots for late arrivals that was posted on the entrance booth. And used that to make sure I wasn't taking someones spot.

Everyone has seen pictures of the Grand Canyon. So here is one to prove I was there.

It sure was warm out here. Over 40C.

Arizona Meteor Crater. I have a really cool panoramic of this as the sun was setting across it. Hopefully I can post it at the end.

Sun setting in the desert. Alot of rain and lightning in the distance.

At the time I was kind of disappointed with the Petrified Forest and Painted Desert. They didn't seem that spectacular compared to the other things I had seen. But looking at the pictures now I see how nice it was.

Heading toward Phoenix, I decided to ride though this heavy rain storm without my rain gear on. I figured with the extreme heat I would dry fairly quickly and I would be through the rain in now time at all. What I didn't count on was traffic coming to an almost complete stop in the heavy rain. They drive in rain here like many BC west coasters drive in snow, and thus I got soaked to the bone.

After leaving out of Phoenix, nearing the Mexico border. Check out the intake tempature. It went as high as 49C (120F). I have usually found it to be off by about 3 degrees at highway speeds. I drank so much water it was insane. I felt full from water yet still never had to go to the washroom. And I was still wearing my full gear. But I did lose the safety vest to increase a little air flow.

It was somewhere around that point where I learned how easy it is on a straight road to zone out. I was riding along when i noticed a line of cars coming towards me. Then all of a sudden I noticed one of those cars was in my lane trying to pass a long line of vehicles! I hit the high beams and dove for the shoulder. The car swerved back and forth a second before cutting back into the line of traffic. This picture is right smack on the border with Mexico. I was tempted to go into Mexico but I decided not to bother due to insurance issues and such. There is always next time.

The Mountains heading into California. Strange how they look like massive piles of small boulders.

Found this big guy while visiting a friend in L.A. There were a good dozen of them.

Heading up to the Getty Museum

Great Museum.

Looking out at LA.

The beach somewhere on the Pacific Coast Highway.

I went past these seals at night. I couldnt see or hear them, but I sure could smell them! I ended up having to backtrack to find a place to camp. So I got a picture the next day.

Lombard Street in San Fransisco.

People actually have their driveways on the corners of the street. Must not be to nice having tourists driving by all day.

This was the steepest road I have ever ridden up. Pictures do not do it justice.

Pelicans in the harbor.

Alcatraz in the fog. Looks like a good day for a swim.

Crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. To bad it was so foggy. I had wanted to get some good pictures.

San Fransisco was very cold (well it was like 20C but my body had become use to the extreme heat of the past week. When I was in LA I was sitting on a patio at night and was shivering like mad because it was only 25C.

Camping in the Red Woods.

Paul Bunyan And Big Blue Bull.

Somewhere on the PCH.

Getting to Oregon felt like I was almost home.

More nice beaches. Finally the fog lifted and temperatures went back up for a little. You can see the heavy fog bank just off shore.

Arriving in Victoria.

Mile 0 on the west coast! Now I can say I did Mile 0 to Mile 0. Just one more ferry ride and I was home.

Back home at last. I would have loved to keep going but sooner or later its back to work. My trip total of 22,788km! (14,159.8 miles) I was already planning the next two trips before I got home

Here is the GPS track log from my trip. Originally I had planned to go down the east coast to Florida. Due to the slow traveling times and high road tolls on the east coast I changed my route. It also didn't help with the speeding ticket I received in Massachusetts. I was guilty and even told the officer so. I made no excuses but I was treated very poorly. It put me in a bad mood for a while and solidified my plan to change direction. All in all I think I saw more this way.
