Angry Shifting while bike is stopped...grrr!

I was wondering how many other fz6 owners are having trouble shifting gears, either up or down when stopped. I have gotten into the habit of doing any shifting before the bike comes to a stop. But every now and then I get caught and stop in a gear other than first and I have to shift then let out the clutch until the gear catches and continue this until I'm in first gear.

The bike runs geat otherwise. Is this just a characteristic of the bike? Has anyone discovered a fix? Could it be an adjustment issue?

Its just the nature of the transmission,,, as you know just let out the clutch a little and it will shift.

Yeah, all bikes are that way. It also helps if you roll the bike forward or backward a little bit.

yea, I thought that's how it worked but I wanted to ask in case it wasn't. Clutching it works for me but I never thought about rocking the bike...thanks for the tip.

This only happens to me occasionally. Most of the time, even if the bike is at a complete stop, I can just click down through all the gears without clutching. I have ridden other bikes like this as well. I find that if I push on the selector slowly I am more likely to need to let the cluch out a little to change the next gear, if I use a quick movement (not stomping on it or anything) it will generally go in to the next gear fine without clutch or movement.

Besides this common problem everyone mentioned , the connection spot of your gear shift lever might be getting rusty, it happened to me, the bike refused to get in first gear, then I put some lube on the part, jiggled with it a little and it works perfectly now..

Why would you need to shift up when stopped? The only gear that you need in that situation is either first or neutral.

From a safety stand point, you should always shift down as you slow to a stop, that way you're in the proper gear should you need to take off for some reason.

Ayup. I agree 100%.

I get annoyed when I'm stuck behind another rider after a light changes because they're dicking around trying to find a gear.

The big score: anyone, any sex, over 75 years old has been upped to 100 points.
