im looking into getting GPS for my fz6. What kind of setup do you guys have? Is there like a kit that comes with mouting equiptment or what? Im not looking to spend an outrageous amount but i'd like to have a good setup.

Pics/Links would be great.

Its amazing...I just got one and I rub myself with it at night...I love it that much.

Garmin: Zumo

But its SO awesome.

Daylight readable screen, glove friendly touch screen, left mounted buttons, waterproof, MP3 player, etc....

Using a normal GPS on a motorcycle comes with some complications that are not an issue on this model.

If you really shop around, you can find the ZUMO 450 (mp3 player, but no bluetooth) for $450 or less.

Does it block your speedo/tach like that?

Those ram mounts are pretty awesome, from what I hear.

Its an illusion...it looks like it completly blocks the guages. but it doesnt at all. i'm 6'1", i can see over it just fine. i had i mounted lower before, but like it up higher that way taking my eyes off the road isnt a big deal.

I have a Mio c220, its a fantastic little gps. Just make sure you get the 2 year coverage plan from CC and the grand total comes to $230. Very affordable. You will have to make/buy a mount for it though.

nice little gps, and a VERY cheap extended plan! I paid an extra $200 for a 4 year plan on mine...ouch! but cause of vibrations, it's needed. I was looking at the Mio when i was gps shopping. reason i got mine instead, is mainly cause i needed/wanted a speed indicator, and i didnt think it had a very good display/menu screen. But for the price and plan, you cant beat it, plus its pretty small/compact.

So how do you hear the directions from these while wearing a helmet on a windy highway going 70mph? Is that where the Bluetooth comes in? And what if it doesn't have that?

I don't use the audio, I just refer to it like another one of my gages.

some may have headphone jacks(not sure if mine does), so you can wear earplugs. i just glance at mine. it'll show you how far the next turn is, so you know a head of time.

+1 on the Zumo. It's awesome and comes with everything you need to mount it easily.
Bought a Garmin Zumo - Here are Pics
The audio can be used 2 ways. Bluetooth into your helmet, if you have it, or you can simply plug a standard set of earbuds into the audio-out jack on the mount. I've used the audio-out jack, and you can hear it fine.

Extended warranties are a scam... kinda' like dealership rustproofing and scotch guarding. For that extra $200, why didn't you just buy 2 of them and find a way to isolate them from vibration?

They do help, especially at places like CC. With the warranty plan, all you do is stop in the store, give them your old one, they give you a new one and you leave. Without it, you pretty much have to fight them for a new one. My warranty plan cost $30 for 2 years, and I have already had to replace the unit 3 times due to the power plug being broken off by how I was mounting it.
