Yeah you did the right thing as mentioned by many. Like you said better to be alive and mad at you than to be dead and worm food. Might also want to grab him and lay a little beat down on him as that is something he can understand.

To me this is a reason why certain age groupd should not be aloud to by high powered bikes til you have a certain level of experiance like the European countries do.

Have you considered maybe starting a local chapter of the "Save The Squids" Foundation? I think you got a good start on that.

I would go to his house and take his bike before someone gets hurt. Don't wait for the police because by the sounds of it, they sound pretty incompetent.

No doubt you did the right thing. This kid is mot mature enough to have a bike... he's got zero respect for it AND the law. Badger him until he takes the motorcycle BRC as well! Disable the bike somehow.... Anything to stop him.

Good for you, man!

Actually I think he should have found the steepest ditch/hill and asked his cousin to meet him there. Tell him he wants to show him something down there and give him a quick boot to the ass. When he gets back up, let him know that's what it feels like to crash.

Personally it should be his direct blood and not cousin who should handle the situation.

Wow - you did the right thing for many reasons. Also, tell the police officer friend to throw him in jail the next time he catches him. Friend or no, he did not help the situation by letting him go.

Take his keys. Make sure he does not have spares.

Good luck with him.

Direct blood rarely does the right thing...look no further than the Jerry Springer show for proof.

Of course I'll give my +1 to the "you did the right thing" comments, but add another one: you may have saved the life of a completely unrelated person. If your cousin would blow through a stop sign, etc. going 100mph (heck 100kph!) and broadsides a car, he could easily kill the driver. Morally you did your cousin, your family, and everyone else on the road a favor.

I'll just pile on and say you did good. You're saving more than one life here, lets just hope that those who can help the most do so ; now is the time. If you don't mind me asking, does he get in trouble otherwise ? school, home, etc ?

There was an article in april 07 issue of motorcyclist (yes, I did dig it out) about a kid here in PA doing the similar thing. He'd taunt cops, take them on a high speed chase then ditch the bike in a cornfield. Long story short, cops spread the word they're looking for him, mandatory pokey time, etc ... His dad got hella mad and almost choked him to death when he found out. Kid realized he was being an ass and ended up doing trackdays with the help of couple of old racers ...so, there's an idea ...

you did nothing wrong. An 18 year old on a rocket like that and riding it the way he does, he could definitely hurt someone else(never mind his dumb ass). By the way, everyone here is saying the word "rat" or "ratting"..This is not close to ratting someone out, because it sounds like your intentions are to ensure that he and other people stay safe.
