I use Permatex spray a gasket sealant on paper or cork gaskets. It stops them from slipping. If its a rubber gasket, which I doubt, you dont need anything on it. Just make sure everything is clean.

JB weld can be tapped for threads just an FYI.

The gasket should come with sealant if it is necessary. It is probably not needed. I think the only thing you need to do is lubricate all of the o-rings like the one around the oil level switch with engine oil. Make sure that you get new crush washers. The service manual has a list of the steps to install the oil pan, so I would follow that instead of asking people on here. I would NOT torque the oil drain bolt all the way to 30 ft/lbs again and just safety wire it instead. Good luck.

thanks for all the help.

gasket came in today and i put it all together. i just positioned teh gasket correctly and didn't add any sealant (my biggest concern). Put the exhaust back on and filled it up with oil. She fired right up, and there seems to be no more leaks. Gonna keep checking on it for a few days tho.

One question: Do the headers go all the way into the engine? While trying to get the headers back in (what a PITA) I thought I wasn't getting it in all the way, then I looked harder and noticed that there wasn't that much room for the header to go in flush. Is this correct? Better yet if someone can take a picture of their header it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks again all.
