I think you are missing some of the point of the design of the transmission on the bikes. The 1-2 shift is intended to be done before the powerband that starts at 8k. Meanwhile downshifting to first is meant to be done at almost a stop, I believe even the manual says to shift at -- mph. I was also taught that proper technique in downshifting into first includes rev matching.

If you'd like to have a bike that performs smoothly when riding improperly, go buy a buell, they design for that -- but understand that you are giving up the high end performance when you do so.

I know this thread is a little old but...

I've been trying a few of these impromtu roll ons and I can say that he must be on some HD drugs. 40kph in 6th is about 2200rpm on my standard geared FZ and I think we can all safely say that its got nothin' down there. It painfully crawls to about 80kph before you would even call it accelerating.

Just thought it interesting nobody picked up on that.

Where is this guy geting his drugs? I would like to know because everybody except him knows about the clunky 1st gear. I don't have a problem with the rest of the review.

I just changed oil, and have been using Shell Rotella 5w-40 Synthetic, I like it alot. But I mistakenly bought Dino 15w40 this time, I did not want to waste it so I used it instead of synthetic. I feel the trans shifts much better with the Dino. Not sure why. Thicker?

New oil always feels smoother.

Prices start at $9,300 and you can choose from two colours: blue or red.
Glad to see they listed the faster color first
