Default Dyno Run...

Over the weekend our local group PEISportBikes put on our Bike Show and Stuntshow. We had a great turnout and great weather to. I got the chance to run the FZ on a Dyno during the show for $20 bucks. I know, its pretty $$$$ haha

Anyways I have a K&N filter and PCIII running a downloaded PC map for a stock bike (not the zero map) and came up with this... (see pics)

I was a little disappointed with the HP numbers and my tourqe curve isn’t really a curve… But I thought I would share my results with everyone. When the bike was running it sounded like the normal 6000rpm ‘dead spot’ in the bike. The Dyno dude offered to help out tuning the bike for a very reasonable price sometime through the summer.

Also the Girlfriend and I put about 1000kms on the bike over the weekend with all the group rides and running to the Stunt show etc and the bike ran great as usual!

===========================================

I went searching around for older threads and can't find them anymore. Guess
I'm rusty, but I remember a few people running their stock bikes on a Dyno and posting their results, and or a pic of their printout. Can anyone help my find them?

Other then this one http://forums.sportbikes.net/archive...d.php?t=151050

289ft-lb's!!!! Holy geez. The graph looks correct as far as the known flat spots, but I'm not sure of the numbers. The torque should be in the 40's.

Looks like the raw data from the dyno. I'm guessing its 300 ft lbs at the rear wheel

Power looks a little low, I would think most dynos would be within about 10 horsepower of eachother, but your reading is 15 hp lower than mine and you have a PC3. Are you sure your bike is running well?

$20 dyno, and a
"The Dyno dude offered to help out tuning the bike for a very reasonable price sometime through the summer."

Sounds like it was calibrated low to drum up business.

I am also no expert but how does he know there was a 30.2HP loss from engine to wheel? ( second pic )

Yea its only a $20 a run cause hes there every year for the show. Anyother time its more money. Other bikes that ran were close if not the same as suggested from the maker. The bike seems to be running fine, but I'm going to run the stock map next time I'm out and maybe sell the PC. Plugs are still stock and should be changed as well.

As for the 30 Hp loss to the wheel I have no idea about that, It just what the Dyno Software printed out.

The dyno run you had done can't be right --if it is you've got problems with your engine, which I think is doubtful from what you say. Below is a FZ6 dyno run done by people who develop exhaust systems (JAMA Engineering of Holland --they designed the FZ6 headers for Yamaha and make the Laser Quad exhaust for the FZ6). BTW, JAMA does NOT recommend using a PCIII or any similar product on the FZ6 with their Laser Quads. The blue curve here is much closer to the norm, I believe......

From stock 89hp. to Blue 93hp to Red 102hp.
This agrees very closely to what JAMA got in my above post when their cat. elim. ("Sport Pipe") is included: i.e., 101.7 HP. So I think the OP can be SURE the dyno run he had was worth even less than the $20 he paid for it. BTW, the HP loss, engine to wheel S/B MUCH less than the 30.2 he allows --that's probably where the error is!

Since he stated that he rode about 1000 kilometers, the torque and horsepower results are probably in a metric unit as well.

Nope, HP and ft-lbs.

I noticed that the OPs dyno run was a 3rd gear roll on. Is this typical?

well the graph says ft-lbs ( not Nm - Newton Meters) for torque and "metric horse power" is roughly 98.6% of mechanical horsepower, so if it was in metric the number would be larger.

Edit:
If you really wanted to be metric, you would use watts, need to ask the Germans why they thought Metric horsepower was needed.

meh, the curves in all of your charts look similar if you consider that the OP's graph has mph on the x axis, as opposed to the others that use rpm. I think if you re-plotted that graph using a comparable scale, you'd see that they are similar, except for the different numbers.

Yea that Dyno ran a scale based on Speed not Engine RPM which seemed weird to me... Thanks to everyone that posted other printouts!
