FZ6If you’re looking for one bike to perform a multitude of missions, look no further.
Take it from Cycle World* Magazine - “For a more advanced rider looking for a bike to do it all, there is no other choice.”
Welcome aboard! Neat to hear you're back in the saddle, and hope you get a butt-load of fun out of that thing. I use mine for commuting as well as my weekend toy. Also, it doesn't hurt having a significant that like to ride on the back... always looks great having a good looking woman holding onto you!
Again, welcome aboard, and enjoy!

Add a PCIII and your mileage will decrease.
Add exhaust and your mileage will decrease.
In stock trim, it sniffs gas, in performance trim it gets with the program.
You decide.
I'm now getting just under 40MPG where when it was stock, it made near 50.
Letting an engine breath allows more fuel to be added thereby producing more power. It's easy to comprehend. To get more power you need to add more fuel and burn it efficiently.
You could go for the dual headlight mod first. That's a good safe one.
You might do some suspension work. That would be my recomendation. There is a world of difference when the suspension is upgraded.
I recommend the "Race Tech" front fork "Emulators" because they do a terrific job without a ton of work. (or money)
After that you might consider a fully adjustable race rear shock like the Ohlins 46HRC.
You will feal the difference immediately and the ride will actually be less of a strain on you.
Pipes and power adders are great but in my opinion unnessessary because the stock FZ6 has plenty of power.
Yeah BROTHER! Got mine at the Hopkins Hitching Post as well.
Funny story I have to share. I've been going in there for about 5 years with my little one... Every spring, summer, fall, and winter, to let him sit on the ATV's, Snowmobiles, Moto-Cross, and regular cycles.
Yeah, the old man liked to sit on a few and remember the glory days when he was young and dumb.
And every other weekend that we went in we'd see the same salesguy and he'd offer us a water or pop, sometimes a ballon or hot dog.
Well last weekend I figured it was time to live the dream and go for it.
They were awesome and I was fortunate enough to get the last FZ6 they had in stock.
It's so sweet.
I'll make sure to get some pic's up soon.
2 questions:
Was your sales guy Don?
Were you wearing a brown leather jacket when you picked up the bike?
(I'll explain that last question after you answer it...)

Nope, my sales guy was Heath. No brown leather for me.
The blue color is pretty cool actually. As my wife says, "Hot, very Hot..."
Ah, the truth comes out - his wife thinks he looks hot on the bike
Whether not not to mod??? I didn't realize it was an option, a choice...I need to seriously reevaluate my life, my priorities...I think I need therapy....

My sales guy was Don. He mailed me a picture about a week after I bought my bike, of a guy wearing brown leather and a blue helmet sitting on a blue 07. The note said "congratulations on the purchase of your new FZ6. We took a picture of you when you picked it up."
It wasn't me...
Thought maybe it was you.
I took the pic back in to Don and reminded him that he delivered my bike to me. Great guy... lousy memory.
BTW, I was wondering, since you've been away from 2wheels for so long, do you have a license or do you have to get certified again?
I'm starting MSF on Monday.

I kept the certification on my license all these years. My wife thought I was a wing nut for paying the extra money to keep it. But I knew the day would come when I just wanted to hop on and ride and not have to go through that nasty cone course again.
I suppose I should take another safety class just to makes sure my skills are up to par.
So far so good <knock-on-wood>. I ride like a granny and pretend everyone on the road is out to kill me. Makes it a little nerve wracking at times, especially when I'm first at the lights, but I get better each day.
Good luck on the test. With the balance that I've seen from this bike you should have no problem going 3mph through those cones.

I think you'll find most people on this forum will agree with that statement.
Maybe get practice 'till you've got that old feeling back and take the advanced course.(cheaper)
Knowledge: It's a good thing.
Well, time for my evening constitution...(ride)
