I had originally tried to go for a mirrored look, but I ended up with a metallic look.

What I did:

taped off everything but the center "V". I then sprayed it with the candy blue. Then a layer of chrome (it's the chrome used in air brushes for RC cars). I then pulled the tape and masking off and sprayed the whole thing with the black (the black is necessary to get the chrome to be chrome).

It didn't turn out how I wanted it to, but it doesn't look TOO bad.

That actually was a decal I purchased and applied to the inside and painted over from the back. It was made by the same guy who does the reflective decals sets for our bike.

From the pic, those wheels look professionally coated - I'd like to know also. Thanks.

This is pretty far from artwork, but I painted a black 'V' on mine. I think it came out pretty good considering I spent about 30 minutes of work and $7 for some Krylon Fusion paint.

I just masked it off, scuffed it up and sprayed 3 coats. The black follows the lines of the black on the fairing really well.

Yes, the wheels were professionally powder-coated, not painted. My guess is that paint probably wouldn't work as well on the wheels due to the abuse they take (rocks and road debris flying around that close to the road, water, and then scrubbing off chain fling, mud, tar, etc). It's held up pretty well - there's maybe 2-3 tiny chips out of it, and you'd have to kneel and look for them.

I didn't know the previous owner, but the dealer told me about most of the mods and how/when they were made - I guess the guy was so excited about them he drove the bike back to show off each mod as he made it. Then he traded it in a year or so later for a cruiser to better accommodate his wife/pillion rider. Works out well for me!

I have no idea how much that cost - just looking quickly in yp.yahoo.com under "electroplating, coating, and engraving" I found to my surprise that there are plenty of places in my area that do powder-coating according to their websites. One even showed motorcycle parts and a car wheel rim on their site! You'd have to call shops in your area for a quote.

Definitely a good winter mod - none of us are going to want to wait around with a wheel-less bike once the weather warms up

I was going more for the 03-05 R6/06-07 R6S shape. I also wanted to hide the cluster as it bugged me a little that it was so visible. I have another pic somewhere but I'm not home at the moment.

Duck, I have plenty of Black Krylon Fusion. If you want to borrow it, send me a PM and I'll give you my address. I'll leave the can in the BBQ on my porch.

Damn, I wish I had thought of using paper the way you did. I wanted my paint job to look more like this. Using the paper the way you did might have made that possible.
