Default The best topcase rack?

On the Twisted Throttle website, there's a lot of topcase racks to choose from. Considering variables such as strength, looks, ease of installation of the rack and installation/removal of the topcase, which of the racks have people bought?

Thanks!

For the topcase I also went with the Givi E52 sitting on top of the GIVI top rack.

I'm probably gonna go with a Givi topcase but what brand of rack are you using? I have an aftermarket exhaust and i'm not sure if the Givi rack will fit (the pic show the rack fitting to the stock exhaust cover).

the givi topcase rack is a very close fit to the oem fz6 exhaust. there is only about 1mm gap between the exhaust and the brackets for the rack. if your after market exhaust is smaller than stock, and basically in the same area, you might be able to fit the givi setup. no guarantees though, and experimentation is prohibitively expensive.

At the 2007 Cycleworld Int. MC Show, I spoke with a salesman from twistedthrottle. They sell all racks: Givi, SW Motech, Kruaser etc. He said that they'll provide free installation for whichever rack I choose. It would be a nice 175 mile ride to their Rhode Island shop. I just wanted to at least have an idea of which rack I wanted to get to make sure they have it. Thanks!

hell, if they're going to install it, tell them your predicament, go there, and see which one fits. i only have experience with the givi setup, and i'd have to say it is top notch.

I am using a Givi rack. It fits nicely around the stock exhaust cover. I guess it all depends on the diameter of yourt exhaust.

V46 and GIVI hardware. The givi racks just look a little better than others w/o the cases mounted, especially the motech's.

Thanks for all the recommendations and feedback! Nurgle, your set up look GREAT. When I go to the shop to buy the rack, I'll see if the Givi works with my Devil exhaust first. And If not, I'll use something else.

Looks good Nurgle, I assume those are E21s on the side? I am looking at a similar setup but with the E360s on the side. I agree the Motech hardware does not look good with the cases off but the side racks are supposed to be quicker to remove than the Givi hardware, correct? If not I will just stick with the Givi hardware.

Yes, e21's. The motechs are removable with some 1/2 turn quick release fasteners. I have not seen the setup on the FZ6, but have on the SV1000 and it leaves behind three small unobtrusive brackets. The Givi's aren't really setup to remove. Though they are a semigloss black and nicely styled and finished and don't look that bad w/o the cases. The motech stuff is all stamped steel and rather industrial looking. I looked hard into the motech stuff for the SV, but they way the mounting and brackets are designed to support the weight (at least on the SV) and reports on the web, they are not very tolerant of overloading. Overloading is nearly a given, with the low weights listed by the manufactures. I have had Givi stuff on a number of bikes and its very stout. The only reason I don' go Givi on the SV is that I don't want a topcase, just the side bags and with Givi on the SV you can't go side bags only. So I'll probably go Krauser when the time comes for the SV.

Probably because they are not available in the US. Suzuki has some factory stuff for the SV, but again, not available in the US

that yamaha topcase rack, while easy to install, seemed a bit shaky... it only bolts to the passenger grab rails, and the nylon it's made of is quite flexible. the givi racks do not move, bend, shake, or anything. they were unaffected in my wreck last year.
i also overload my givi luggage, so i appreciate the sturdy racks for more than one reason.
