Default FZ6 Octobergap Meet "deals Gap"

Updated 10/18/06 2 DAYS TO GO !! No Changes

WHAT: This is to anybody with an FZ6 or other bike interested in getting together at Deals Gap.
If anybody is interested post up. Let us know your level of commitment (maybe, likely, definite.)

WHEN: The weekend of 10/20/2006. Remember that at this time of year it is cold in the morning, warm in the afternoon and then chilly again at night. So, dress accordingly. I dress in layers under my riding jacket to remove some when i get hot and put them back on when it get cold.

WHERE: Deals Gap, NC. I have copied some really good info from the last Deals gap thread (thanks Eric!) for the people that have never been to the Smokeys.

If you don't know much about the gap you can find out here:
LINKS:
http://www.dealsgap.com
http://www.tailofthedragon.com
http://www.fontanavillage.com
http://www.killboy.com/
If you want a DVD of yourself going thru the dragon, check out http://www.yellowwolfvideos.com/

MAPS:
http://maps.google.com/maps?sourceid...NC&sa=N&tab=wl

Hotels/Motels/Lodges/bed n' breakfast... etc: http://www.dealsgap.com/accommodations.htm
Make reservations in the hotel of your choice. Not everyone is staying in the same place due to limited rooms that are left available.

Friday:
_ Meet at the Crossroads of Time for breakfast at 9:00am and for late-comers at 3:00pm (For the people coming in on Friday that won't make it on time for the breakfast, you should wait at the Crossroads of Time until you see the troop of FZ6's re-group)

Address:
Deal's Gap Motorcycle Resort
17548 Tapoco Road
Tapoco, NC 28771

_ We will be having lunch at "The Homeplace" on the way to Foothills PKWY before re-grouping at the Crossroads of Time at 3:00pm.

_ The ride to Gatlinburg is great and traffic is not as bad as you may think, so, if it is of any interest to you, we can head there for dinner.

Saturday:

_ Early 8:00am breakfast at Fontana Village. http://fontanavillage.com/fontanavillage_dining.html

_ 9:30am meet at the Crossroads of Time for other riders not interested in breakfast.

_ From 9:30 to noon, lots of passes through the Dragon.

_ Lunch on the way to Cherohala Skyway. (On the way to the Skyway we could stop for gas/lunch at Cherohala Market in Tellico Plains. They have inside seating for lunch and some covered parking and picnic tables out back).

_ Big get-together on Saturday night:
The Eastern Tennessee Riders board is having their fall bash. They rent out the whole restaurant at the CROSS ROADS OF TIME and have a dinner for around $10 and then have a 50cc race in the parking lot, a raffle for some door prizes (some cool stuff like digital cameras, etc.) Then have a big bonfire and some drinking.(DO NOT DRINK AND RIDE)

Sunday: A ride with Tour Guide to go see waterfalls, tunnels, caverns, and monster trees.

Monday: Some people will be going home. Those that are staying can plan more riding if they still don't have a monkey butt by then.

Definite.

I prefer the 20th but could swing the 27th as well.

Below are some pics that should ensure a good turnout....

It doesn't matter what you ride, everyone's welcome. Last time we had a kawi Z1000 and a Honda ST1300 in the group.

GFD, do you know with the discount how much the cheapest rooms at fontana will be ? we might consider staying at the tuskegee motel - which is right down the road.
also even if mrs tour guide accompanies me she might truck back to macon and i'm game for staying monday and/ or tuesday as i won't have to be back to work till wedensday.

I will be a maybe. I am not sure if I will be going to make the Talihina run with some friends of mine. I might be able to make it to Deal's if not the Talihina run.

Looks like i am scheduled to work the weekend of oct 20th. So either the weekend before or the weekend after will be good for me. Although (10/27) is getting awlful close to the snow starting to fall here in Michigan. What is the temp like at the gap for that time of year?

I'll be in Nashville on the 20th to see Blue Man Group in concert. So maybe I can make that weekend work. Maybe crash in Nashville for the night and leave super early to meet up with everyone Sat. morning. hhmm, I'll have to think about that one.
But more than likely, the 27th works better for me. I've got a friend living in Knoxville...so I can crash there before meeting up with the group.

So I guess, put me down as a maybe.
