Default Had my stock FZ6 on a Dyno today

Greetings!

Been wondering lately if my FZ6 has been running rich. Seemed that I could smell a little more gas than normal from the exhaust. Not running rough or anything, just a slight smell. A local bike night has a guy with a portable dyno that he sets up there. So, for $35 I decided what the heck, might be fun, and gave it a go.

On a side-note, he'd been Dyno'ing big cruisers with aftermarket pipes on them all evening. So there was some joking around by the crowd watching about my quiet pipes when he first started the run. They were plugging their ears though when the FZ6 got up to the 10-14k range No more comments from the peanut gallery after that, hehe. Not to mention my HP numbers weren't too far off from their 1600+cc engines...and mine a 'lil 'ole 600cc Torque was anther matter of course. Anyway...

Completely stock: Air temp 83F, 29.91 in-Hg, Humidity 56%, SAE: 1.01

Max power: 84.81hp @ 12k
Max Torque: 40.23 ft-lbs @ 10k
Top Speed in 5th gear (out of 6 gears): 142mph (edit: forgot to mention he didn't want to go above 13,500 RPM)

Air/Fuel mixture was ok above 10k, but rich from about 5k to 10k, and somewhat lean below 5k.

The Dyno Guy suggested a P/C (which he sells of course) , aftermarket Air Filter and pipes.

I wouldn't mind trying a K&N filter for example, not really too interested in pipes just now. May be interested in the P/C. Is there a cheaper way to even out the air/fuel mix?

Any thoughts about anything appreciated!

Have you changed gas stations/brands/octane grade by any chance? If not, I'd proceed as follows:

1) I'd check to see if the air filter needs to be replaced first.
2) Do you need a new sets of plugs? If so, change them.
3) Scan through and see if there are any fault code errors registered. If none, continue on.
4) Unplug the battery and re-connect after 5-10 min. (This is to re-boot the ECU. The idea is to clear and re-establish the default setting on the map without any inputs from the sensors)
5) Start and warm up the engine and adjust the idle to spec.
6) Synchronize the throttle bodies.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Thats about right for a stock FZ6. I got mine on the dyno a few weeks ago and pulle 90.2 whp (dynojet). My bike only has the Laser quads (all baffles installed) with the cat eliminator pipe (freebie ). PCIII and a air filter could probably bring it to the 100hp mark with a lot smoother curve.
