The sliders were the ones I got on ebay, from sumofallparts or someone like that. They didnt strip the threads on the block and didnt bend the frame, the bolt bent slightly between the slider and the frame. I did get a little rash on my knee and my whole body is sore, my hand hurts around the base of my right thumb and my elbow hurts when I put it on my armrest, but other than that I feel ok.

Although i hate to see someone go down, it does remind me how fast a situation can happen.
Once again, glad yer ok.

Wow. I hate sand. HATE IT. Glad you'll be okay and the bike will be too. I vote for naked, if we're voting.

Pictures please. If you're going naked, we need to see the process! (Is that a strip tease or sumthin?)

Man that sucks... soooo sorry to hear it happened, but soooo very glad to hear you're relatively unscathed.

Heh, what do you guys think about the acerbis headlight like on streetfighterfz6's bike? Seems to be an easy and cheap solution to my problem for now, I dont have enough money to spare to do either the naked mod or to fix all the fairings, so this looks like a viable option for the moment. I can probably afford to do the full fix (either naked or faired) during the summer when I'll actually be able to work.

Also, do you guys think drag bars would be a good alternative to stockers for someone 6'3"? Do they change the handling characteristics much?

I'm starting to think that the saying about motorcyclists is true: "There are only two kinds of riders: those that have been down, and those who are on their way."

Sorry man, glad your ok

I think its time for you to do an R6 headlight mod, and get the rest of the fairing pieces cheap from ebay. You could get a set of those lower handlebars while your at it as well! Good luck!

While making a left down one of the lanes, I hit some sand and the back tire went out from under me, while falling, my gloves (extra grippy), grabbed a handful of throttle and spun the tire some more, it caught suddenly and threw me over in a high side, the bike landing on its right side really hard. Weird thing is I saw it all happen right as it was about to happen... I was probably going 15 mph. So the bike is on its side, revving like crazy since it jammed the throttle tube wide open, so I got up quickly and hit the kill switch. Guy runs up and wanted to call an ambulance, I had to convince him otherwise. Then he said we should probably get the bike up so a cop doesnt come over and write me a ticket (can they do that? Would they do that after seeing me hurt and my bike smashed? I think not)

My knees were shaking like a mofo, but I managed to pick the bike up and get it on its stand. Quick visual inspection found the frame slider did its job all right, bending in the process and grinding to about 3/4 its original length but still holding. Frame, cases, everything all right.I was able to ride it home after removing some of the busted plastics and bending the brake lever back ino place, but it felt a little funny with the handlebar bent. Tank is smashed, still holds gas, but I'm not concerned because I have a spare. Handlebar was bent, front end trashed pretty much, including:

Right mirror, not busted but ripped up pretty bad.
Front fairing piece, the big one.
Inner right front fairing piece
Headlight assembly is busted
Windscreen is busted
Fairing stay is bent in a few places

Things I will not have to replace:
Colored plastic piece on the right of the front fairing
Turn signals are scratched up but ok
Controls are all fine, minus a few scratches.
Pegs withstood the impact all right, and I'm not worried about the brake lever.

So do you guys think it'll be more economical to go naked or to replace all the busted/bent parts? I really like the looks of the naked one as well. I'll take pics of the damage for you guys tomorrow.

And I still didnt get to pick up my milk, snacks, and socks I went out for...
I'm sorry about your mishap.

1) The engine should've cut-off when you leaned over. Check your lean angle sensor!
2) When making a slow turn, always cover the clutch.
3) Have you re-routed any cables or wires from the handlebar going into the frame?

Glad you made it out ok.

Id just look around for salvage plastics unless you can stand the wind naked, I picked up a whole front black fairing for $30 off some site.

I've actually got a pile of slightly scratched up parts from my last get off. The front fairing, the right side visor, the right side inner panel, the windshield, the rear grab handles, and the right side cover. Nothing is broken, there just have scratches or gouges in them. I was gonna toss them, but you can have them if you pay for shipping. PM me if you are interested (before Thursday - that's trash day). I've got pictures of the items as well.

sorry for your mishap. glad to see you didnt hurt yourself too much.

Bill_B about the plastic part in the inside area of the side visor. Is it part of the front fairing extending up to there?
