FZ6If you’re looking for one bike to perform a multitude of missions, look no further.
Take it from Cycle World* Magazine - “For a more advanced rider looking for a bike to do it all, there is no other choice.”
Hi this is my first post, so I hope It has not been discussed elsewhere.
My FZ6 developed a valve tap at 400 miles. At the 600-mile service I asked them to look into it and they said that they would re-gap the valve clearances, but when I was going home I noticed that it had not really changed. Does this motor have some valve noise that I should not worry about or should I take it back?
It is not real loud or anything, it just sounds like one valve can be heard above the others and it is annoying. I am thinking about getting the service manual and doing this myself in the future. Is this motor a pain to set the valve lash on?
Thanks

I'm no expert but I would try switching brands of gas. Give it 2-3 tank fulls of one brand and see what happens. I use to get gas at this one place when I first got the bike and I had a tappin noise as well. I switched to BP (amaco) and within 2 weeks the tappin went away almost completely.
After that happened I did took my car to the BP as well and did the same test since I'b been gettin gas at the same place for the car .... the BP gas got rid of the tapping there as well.

Hey Cake, is it a slight tapping noise? It might just be the fuel injectors doing their thing. If you do a search, there should be some related posts regarding this.
I guess you could say the motor is a pain to set the valve clearances on, since it uses shims and requires tearing down some of the top of the motor to get to them. Actually, I'd be surprised if the dealer really did check the clearances at the 600-mile service. They probably just listened to it and called it normal.

That sounds about right. I was not very impressed with the service dept. Thats why I want to do the work myself. I guess I'll have to break down and buy the $80 manual.
