The whole "sunscreen" thing was written by Mary Schmich in 1997 in her column for the Chicago Tribune. It got turned into a spoken word piece for an album put out by Baz Luhrmann, but he didn't write it or even perform it. The voice is Aussie actor Lee Perry. It also gets credited to Kurt Vonnegut, but that ain't true either. It's one of the more complicated urban legends out there.
