Default Carbon Fiber Project Underway

So I've got lot's of modifications in the works the winter. Not the least of which to nakedify the fizzer. I have an FZ1N headlight bracket coming in next week to see if I can get it to fit.

Another mod is to do some cf wrapping to match the leos. Here are a couple of shots of the side panels after the first epoxy wet today. Bought a 1 yard roll of cf from US Composites: CARBON FIBER - GRAPHITE - KEVLAR and used West System Epoxy and hardener. Kind of a pain because of the wierd shape. We'll see how it comes out after a few coats and UV and clear coat. If it works I may also do the seat cowl.

So let me get this straight: you're basically using CF to make an existing part heavier

I mean I guess if it gives you the look you're after, great. But that sounds like its kinda counter productive.

The extra weight is a non-issue. 1. I'm not Rossi, 2. it's like 8 ounces. It's all about the look. I'll run a couple extra miles this week. That said, I am sorry to say that I'm not completely sold on it. It looks great on its own but when mounted it kinda clashes with the perf'd seat. Totally worth the try (and the practice) but I'm going to have to think about this some more.

what about making molds of the parts first then using the carbon fiber to make completely new peices... that way if you wanted you could sell them when your done if you dont like them... just an idea...

You're looking at maybe a pound difference. Big deal.

He could potentially use the first parts to make a mold for any future parts, once these parts are set.

Thought about making a mold for the side panels (2 actually) but didn't because of the internal connections to the frame. Anyway, the cf didn't look great as I said earlier so I scrapped the idea, broke off the cf and epoxy, sanded for hours and repainted the panels a black similar to the frame color. That was plan B from the start. Next is the shortened hugger and/or chain guard which will be cf. For that I may make a mold.
