Sportbike: ive owned everything once
Little update. i had the day off of work, and no classes... so i started stripping her. amazingly, the front faring assembly comes off in one piece after removing 4 bolts.
i tried some mounting positions with the speedo, this position seemed to work best (leaving clearance for the headlamp, and key access), the little bracket used here is just for reference. i will be working up a bracket on solidworks to mount from the triple tree up to the speedo (mounting to all three bolt holes, for support)
someone asked about the KTM light on my fz6, so i entertained that idea... its ugly! like, the morning after a long , finding that you've awakened next to a manatee...
also, i got bored, figured i make some mears (haha get it, mears = mirrors/ears)
enjoy, i will post some progress of the bracket tonight.

Compare plugs and make sure the wiring is compatible first...
Well I would cut the wires anyway to shorten them and solder everything back together... so I don`t see how the functions that are comon to both bikes wouldn`t work fine.
Anyway, I think dreambuilder would prefer not to cut any wires, so it's looking like we're going to keep our respective speedos

im trying a few more options before letting mr. dave have the speedo hahaha, sorry dave. if nothing works, i will let you know
i remade a mount today to see if this would work. i realized i REALLY want clip-ons for my bike, the bars position make the thing look mean! it also feels much more sporty. so, i think some clip-ons will be on the way soon.
onto the speedo, i mounted it to the former bar mounts, i looks well, and works. but, the speedo is a bit high for my liking, it looks as if its on a pedestal. so i went to plan B. i made a mock-up of a fork clamp without zed handlebar mounts... in place of them is 2 bolt wholes for mounting the speedo. this would work well, as it would clear the clamp spindle bolt, and the key assembly. it would use the stock holes on the speedo equipped with the rubber grommets.
im really liking plan B, i have to talk to a friend of a friend tomorrow to see what he can do for me (machining wise).
heres some pics to tie you over. the clamp hasnt been dimesioned at all yet, its just a mock, so dont take to close of a look at it haha. if i can get a machinist, i will remake it to spec of the stock clamp.

IMHO speedo position is big bullshit. Its sticking out. If you wanna put it in nicely you got to get small digital speedo and put it in front of top triple possibly be hidden in the gap between the headlight (KMP right) and the forks. Here is what i mean.

Plan B is not a bad idea... little complicated, but if you have the machining capabilities, why not. I`d be interested to see the end product.
Yeah that's what I`ll eventually try to do as well... put the speedo between the top mini fairing of the headlight and the handlebar to "cover" that hole... you will have to position it to the right though, to avoid blocking the key assembly...
David its 100x better then on top of the triple. Its not like you will be watching movies. Its nice to have all the goodies of the OEM speedo, but sacrifice is the word here. OEM is made to be functional not pretty (not saying that 07 is not sexy, oh man i love 07 speedo ). There are digital options in small size but pricey. Want functional, good looking and small, well gonna have to empty your wallet a lil bit. Good luck with project. Its coming along
