Default How to: Install a Speedohealer

Finally got my Speedohealer to go with my Vortex 15t front sprocket. I picked up the Speedohealer v3.0 from calsportbike.com. I didn't want to change the front sprocket and have my speedo as well as my odometer really off so I figured I'd get this. After looking at the speedohealer's website, I felt the directions were pretty straight forward, but some pictures would've been nice... so I took some while I was putting it in. Hope these are of some help.

First off, you need to remove your inner panels and raise up your tank. I didn't include pictures of these steps because they are pretty straight forward.

Once you raise the tank you'll see something that looks like this...

The red circle shows the boot that you'll have to peel back a bit to expose the speedometer sensor. Pull that back and look for the triangular, white plug that will fit the harness included with the speedohealer (the red cable with white plugs). Attach like so...

Next decide where you want to actually place the speedometer unit. I put mine here. Avoid putting it anywhere too close to the exhaust or somewhere that gets really hot.

Route the wires anyway you please. The instruction recommend against running it next to any other wire to avoid interference. However I didn't want the red wire showing too much, so I zip tied the red wire directly behind the black cable loom.

Next You have to attach the thin loose red wire to a 12V source that's turned on by the ignition. I opted for the license plate light, others have used the rear brake light but have had interference with that wire. To use the license plate light wire, take off the left rear side panel.

Now on the 06s the license plate wire you want to splice into is the blue wire. You can pick up a little baggy of splices from Radioshack for about $2.

If you are unsure which wire to use, you can unplug both wires that go to your license plate light and touch the speedohealers bare wire to the connector. If the red led on it blinks that's the right wire.

Splice into this wire like so...

Now connect the molex connector from the wiring harness into your speedohealer.

At this point with the speedohealer connected and the ignition on, whenever the rear wheel turns the speedohealer's led should blink.

To make sure that it's running properly. Turn off the bike, then push lever one up into the ON position. Then turn on the ignition and on your speedometer it should show a constant speed. Mine went from 0 -> 6 -> 12mph. Your speedohealer is now properly connected and ready to be calibrated.

on a side note you might want to get creative with how your rout the wiring under the seat. or just pay attention to how you put your tools back in, i get lazy and dont put the tools in their original spot. when i dont, sometimes the seat becomes a pain to get on. but other than that, my speedohealer is calibrated to adjust for just the sprocket change and it seems to be pretty spot on... still need a GPS to calibrate however.

Thanks for the pics on this. I was looking everywhere for the harness and never thought to pull back that rubber boot.

to set the speedohealer you can go to their website and find their calculator tool. it will give you step by step instructions on how to program your indivdual settings.

ie. flip switch 5 and press button 5 times, flip switch 5 off, flip switch 4 on, press button 3 times flip off... etc

it's very easy to do once you figure out the calibration. i dont have a GPS, so i just adjusted for the front sprocket change. so i should still retain my factory speedo error. i really need to borrow a GPS some time and get it exactly right.

nice job nate ! how do you like the new sprocket? That's on my list to do next year. We should try to get together for a ride before the season is over.

the sprocket is nice. i can't tell too much of a difference as my riding style changed lately. been running it up to higher rpms than before.

few things i've noticed, around traffic and parking lots has become much easier. i dont have to slip the clutch as much which has been nice. i can power wheelie/bounce it much easier. (haven't tried to do it lately as much/still haven't tried clutching) it doesn't feel like a huge upgrade (like a 520 conv -1/+2 would), but it's a pleasant addition for ~$20. maybe if i put back on the old sprocket and see how it feels i could give a better review... but i really just dont feel like doing that

The calculator on the speedohealer site was spot on for the %. I checked mine against a gps and punched in the difference. -16.7% after the install of the 520 kit. Now it's dead on up to 85 or so and only 3 miles happy at 140 indicated was 137 on the gps.

Why can't you reprogram it at service?
Isn't it usual thing to do on motorcycle, change sprockets?
I change mine, rear, I put 48 thoots instead 46 and I feel difference...
Can I through control panel on speedometer change ratio?
