Default FZ6-R Project/Track Bike

Here's my thread officially announcing my "FZ6-R" Project/Track Bike. I'll be trying some things with this project that I don't believe too many others have attempted. The purpose of this project bike is to build on the FZ6's race lineage and make it a more competent track bike. I already know it's a great touring/street bike, I'm just wanting more track fun from it now. I'll also dumping a ton of money into the bike. I already have some $1100 into the bike plus I've spent $700 this month in buying R6/R1 plastics, DZUS fasteners, an R1 headlight, R1 integrated tail light, R6 flush mount turn signals, an R6 fairing stay. Other things I'm hoping to add are a PC3, Vortex 520 Chain Conversion, EBC Pro-Lite Contour Rotors front and back with HH pads, and an Ohlins rear shock, and some sort of paint job. Probably looking to spend another $1500 over the next year. For now, I'll post some pics of the plastics, headlight and fairing stay.

Do you have any plans for the swingarm, either replacement or reinforcement? It seems that this is a source of flex even in stock trim and will become a point of frustration as your other improvements allow increased cornering loading. Just wondering...

Awesome...can't wait to see it all put together along with some action shots.

Why are you going to spend $120 on a rear brake rotor? Will it drop a lot of weight? How about the front rotors? My back end is routinely in the air at the track (front end is dropped too much I think) and I only have the EBC HH pads with SS lines...I have stock rotors. Weight again?

I'm shopping for a rear shock and rear sets.......

Good point, it appears that it should just drop in as the shock, wheel and swingarm pivot dimensions are the same.

This is an honest question, not a flame....
According to your avatar, you have a R6 already.
Why not make it your track bike since it's closer to a race/track bike out of the box???
Seems you would have to modify and spend less than doing the FZ6.

Best of luck!

Nice! Have fun with that. A question about the 07 does it have linkage on the rear shock? Or is it just bolted to the swing arm again.

Same direct mount and same shock unit as previous years.

Almost like building a sleeper, but.....
Rather put that money in your R6S and make it better, keep FZ6 where it belongs - on the street. Its due to engine and frame limits that its not gonna be equal to lets say R6S. I mean rideability.
As someone above mentioned - rear swingarm is SO SO SO SKINNYYYY it might get twisted if you dont change it or reinforce it. So at this point we come back to same question - why to put money into FZ6, when you can sell it and buy MT03/MT01 and keep R6S for the track. And if you really really ready to put that money in it put TURBO in - then its gonna be fun. I bet there is no turboed FZ6 - you might be the first in the world ( worst case USA) then it will be something. Anyway you choose congrats for courage to step up
