I'm curious how the setback plates will affect the linkage etc.? I sent them an e-mail asking if they have them for the FZ6. If they fit maybe would could get a group buy going.
Any word on the set back plates? I'm definitely in if there is gonna be a group buy.

I have a local (Chicago) woodcraft/LSL distributor looking into it for me. He took down all the info on our bike and is trying to find something that will work. He's a friend of a friend of a friend and seems fairly motivated to make it work and get the sale.
30mm back, 15mm up -- $130 (intentionally did not mention the group buy to him yet)
We'll see......
BTW, I didn't get very far with GPTech, LLC although there were nice enough to call me back and discuss.

Thanks for the update on that.
An update on my stuff. I was attempting pull off the kickstand to make it easier to get to the centerstand, and I almost totally stripped the stupid cheapy military coated end cap bolt. I took it to my local shop and they used their bolt extractor tool to get it out. But, while I was there. I started talking to their new mechanic. He's a customizer! And he started giving me some great ideas.
Basically, he and I discerned that there's no way I can sensibly fit the R1 tail. The R1 tail is real flat (as is the subframe) and I would almost have to chop it in half to get any use out of it. Defeats the purpose of buying that tail. I'm gonna start looking at other options (he suggested an 06+ R6/aka R6R tail).
On the front, he took the FZ6 fairing stay and the R6 fairing stay, and he's either gonna splice them, then weld the FZ6 frame mount points to the R6 stay at the angle needed by the plastics, or make his own mounting bracket and weld that onto the R6 stay.
Anyways, he got me excited about some of the things he was suggesting (single underseat exhaust pipe, taking an R1 or R6 swingarm). Well, I'm off to NYC for a few days but I'll get an update from him on Thursday.
Hey oso - can't remember if this was already discussed in this thread (no time to read thru it all), but what about using the subframe/tail from the Australian FZ6 Race Cup bikes? Someone is making those and I recall a member on here emailing them and they said they'd sell them...

I emailed Racer's Edge in Australia but I received no response. Their duc tail was pretty expensive though. Something on the order of $160 + international shipping (more than half of what I paid for the full set shipped). Maybe I'll email them again.
Hi Oso, Love your work and good luck with your project. Have you seen the Aussie FZ6 Cup bikes. I'll attach a couple of shortcuts to some info which includes some photos. And you can be sure that these bikes are going around the tracks in Aussie at about 1 to 2 seconds off the pace of the R6 Superstock class so you aren't loosing much to a fully setup R6. You will see that one of the bikes has a single exhaust and when I saw them race a couple of months ago, all the 07 model FZ6 bikes had the single exhaust. I don't know how much horsepower they are getting out of the engines but I do believe that they have to be within a certain percentage of a standard FZ6 as part of the rules. That way the bikes are the same and the rider makes all the difference. It was a great day of racing and I couldn't believe how fast they were. I've had my 06 FZ6 out at the track and timed against my 05 R6 the FZ6 is less than 2 secs a lap slower and it was my first day out on the FZ6, still with standard suspension and 18 month old Bt020's on it. I'm about to fit a 07 R6s front end on it and some sticky tyres and go out and see how it goes then. And I will be putting the R6 back to road fairings and selling it cause the FZ6 can do both dutes. Its up to a full day in the saddle on the road and can be quickly ready to do track days with. My back can't take more than 20 mins on the R6 when its on the road.
I've seen the FZ6 Cup Bikes. They're awesome. They're partly my inspiration for this project. Unfortunately, Racer's Edge (Series plastics providers) didn't reply to my emails. That's why I embarked on this project the way that I have.
Well...I'm still in NYC but since my mechanic/welder/customizer Dustin at CycleDepot in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles, CA gave me an update of his progress, I figure I'd update you guys too.
Dustin is making a bunch of brackets and is welding a custom fairing stay from two chopped up fairing stays (an R6 and FZ6). He had to trim down a bunch of things on the lower and upper to get them to fit better but now he's making welding brackets. The clip-ons do have to go underneath the triple as they don't clear the upper and even the ignition/key mount is being relocated to make room for the upper. I'll be going by the shop tomorrow to check out the bike.

Unfortunately that is what it is like for most of our motorbike parts providers. As we have a relatively small population, the shops act like they're monopolies and really don't give a s**t once you've bought the bike. Aftermarket shops are even worse. Which is why a lot of people I know are buying from the US at the moment. Our dollar is high and as an example, I bought the 07 R6s front complete with upper and lower triple clamps, axle and brake calipers shipped to aussie for less than half what a 2nd hand parts dealer wanted for just a set of 03 front forks. I guess it wont hit home here until the shops start to realise that they are loosing a lot of business by ignoring the customer. Anyhow, good luck and keep at the project.

Any word on what your Chicago dealer came up with? My customizer had offered to fab up some set back plates. I'll ask him about it when I see him again today.

Oh...and he sent some pics!
The lines of that fairing actually seem to line up with the FZ tank and frame half decently!
I know he mentioned it in the caption under the pic, but that chin i looks like it's a tire scraper! Could he not set the whole thing back 3/4-1"???
