I would just bust out the drill and some sheet metal, and make an adapter.
I'll be working on getting a template for a bracket tonight. I'll get my gf's machinist brother-in-law to snag me a piece of scrap sheet metal today too.

Sounds good!
hope it will work out allright, keep up the work and stay at it,
i think if you suceed, a LOT of people will want to do this mod...^^
I´m still unsure which fairing to buy, because if have two different models to choose from, both being copys of the 03-05R6`s fairing, but still one having same upper/lower as your race plastics but the other being a lot cheaper thus having a smaler lower and parts of your lower integrated into the upper...
otherwise exact same thing, just being like 70/30 on upper/lower instead of 50/50... size-wise...
hope you get what i mean, and it doesn´t sound too weird...^^
i have to carefully plan everything out right and will also keep my attention very close on your project since i do not have a whole lot of money to spend on parts as an university student with almost no income, but still he dream of also doing this mod^^
so need to really carefully plan things ahead and also will wait a little bit, to see, ho the upper will fit for you,
so keep up the cool "trying-out-taking-pictures-and-posting" thing
Ok...so I did try making a bracket. Let just say my tin snip skills are rusty after almost 15 years since the last time I used them in metal shop while I was in Junior High. But I'll get it right the next time. ;)
Anways, I've come across a dilemma. I'm having a hard time test fitting the lower because it's a one piece and it's contacting with the centerstand. The rear part also seems a bit longer too. I noticed alex/kniefi has his on a rear stand but it also looks like his lower is two piece unit. Is that correct?
does anyone have a picture of the fz6 with another tail on there other than the racing one? I would really like to see how it looks with the r1 split seat on there and how manageable it would be to mod one up before i invest into such a project.
and another question. would you need to replace the undertail with the r1 undertail to factor in the tail lights? Im also guessing thats not exactly a bold on project without modifications

I don't know if you'll be able to do that. There's no support for a split seat in the FZ6 subframe.

I don't believe an undertail is necessary for lights. The 04+ R1 undertail follows the same theory as the FZ6; only enough to keep heat away and stay out of the exhaust's way.

Hey oso,
the lower i used comes from "sebimoto"
it is a one piece lower-fairing, making the whole race-fairing a two piece...
here an axact picture of the lower i was using, maybe it can help you...
i also have a center-stand, but just but both stands (center stand and side stand ) up and put the rear arm on a bike-stand,
was on sale for 16,99€ last time i was at our local bike shop,
and showed allready to be useful^^
one thing i notice, the lower came really close and was a bit tight on the hose that goes from the cooler to motor
(sry, i don`t know some of these terms quite to well in english...)
but not tooo many problems with the center-stand...
you might want to remove it though and use spacers and/or longer/shorter screws depending on what is needed to mount the fairing to that hole...
i wish i still had that lower around to fiddle with it, so i could try out more...

there are several different ways, you could go and try a jig-saw with a hart-metal saw blade which is used to cut ceramics and stuff, that should go though it pretty easy... without tearing the fibres apart too much...
it is a special blade and on front does not have really teeth, but rather a "coating" with a very hard-material, which feels kinda rough...
another way would be a dremel and a diamond-blade/disc
something like this...
be sure when you cut it, to do it in one smooth motion and not too slow since that will heat it up too much thus making the resin liquid again, and it will stick to the blade and stuff....
either way you should be fine, it is not that hard to do,

Probably a dremel with a cut off disc... just make sure you wear a good dust mask while you do it!!! Glass fibres aren't good for the lungs...
Cut it as close to final as possible, and then you can use a little fibreglass resin and hardener on the edges to keep them from fraying. The resin dries very hard, and can be sanded to a nice smooth finish. It should be in the autobody section of any auto parts store...
