also can you put the lower fairing on first with the fz6 upper, and see how that works out? Some of us would like a full fairing but there is no nice looking/easy solution
Do you have any plans for the swingarm, either replacement or reinforcement? It seems that this is a source of flex even in stock trim and will become a point of frustration as your other improvements allow increased cornering loading. Just wondering...
I was wondering about that myself. I just noticed today that someone makes a reinforced swingarm and it was posted in the FZ6 Aftermarket thread. Damn! I need to find me a sugar momma to make this project less expensive. ;) This something I will be looking into in due time.
Awesome...can't wait to see it all put together along with some action shots.
Why are you going to spend $120 on a rear brake rotor? Will it drop a lot of weight? How about the front rotors? My back end is routinely in the air at the track (front end is dropped too much I think) and I only have the EBC HH pads with SS lines...I have stock rotors. Weight again?
I'm shopping for a rear shock and rear sets.......
This is one of few weight reduction mods I'll be doing. After reading the Vortex 520 Conversion thread, where Vortex components were 37% of the OEM parts weight (63% weight savings!), I'm hoping this will be worthwhile and I love the way the EBC rotors look and they're way cheaper than other "wave rotors" that I've seen.
This is an honest question, not a flame....
According to your avatar, you have a R6 already.
Why not make it your track bike since it's closer to a race/track bike out of the box???
Seems you would have to modify and spend less than doing the FZ6.
Best of luck!
No offense taken (though I think you've asked me this before ;) ). This isn't about my other bike. I've only added a Jardine CF Exhaust to my R6S and that's all I'm willing to do for now. Besides the fact that I love my FZ6, it's also paid off. The R6S is a few years from being in the same status. I think once I do finish paying it off, I'll probably do the same thing to it (make it a full-out track bike) and find an R1 as my daily commuter. My track skills are lame (at best) and there's no desire in me to trash my beautiful R6S. If I should happen to trash my FZ6 on the track, oh well, she was great while she lasted but it's time for me to move on. Money isn't the issue here. It's more about availability. I have two bikes, and I'm not willing to sacrifice my R6S for track only purposes. I am willing to sacrifice my FZ6 though. I've seen plenty of tricked out SV650s on CraigsList. Why should the FZ6 only have its fun on the highway?

Will do. However, note that I bought a used R6 fairing stay to hold the upper to the triple. This part (or a custom part) is necessary for that purpose. There will also probably be tons of extra work to get the fairing stay to bolt up to the triple.

FYI, I'll be mounting my clip-ons underneath the top triple. I hope this gives me the stability I'm looking for. And I forgot about the rear sets. Haven't decided whether I'll go Rizoma or ValterMoto or maybe a custom job. We'll see. Even with my lame track skills, I was scraping toes and peg feelers at Willow Springs in Turn 3 (uphill left hander at 90 MPH at my skill) level.

I'm considering mounting them under too. I have Heli bars which can be seen here....
With the clipons in their current positoni I feel kinda cramped in a full tuck going both straight and turning (I'm 6'3" though). The rearsets will help me with this and give me more available lean angle. However, after installing the clipons I was able to run a little faster without scraping much of anything.
One other mod you should consider -- removing your side stand. I just discovered that I've been scraping the hell out of mine at the track...it's worn down a few mm (I can post pics later).....not good!
Are you going to race in a certain class? Or is this for track days only???
For now, I'm only going to do track days. I certainly need more track time and instruction before I'm ready to race. Right now, I'm planning on doing a track day some time during the first quarter of next year and hopefully one or two more afterwards. I'd like to do a weekend long track school soon after my first track day of the year next year.

Wow...Really? I had thought about what I might do with the centerstand (remove it for about 6 lbs weight savings) but I hadn't even thought about the sidestand.
I am curious to know why you bought the R6S rather than the R6.
The FZ6 and R6S have the same engine (slightly different tuning)....but the R6 has Yammi's real next generation 600.
I mean...you seem to have a lot of money to throw at bikes...so buying two bikes with the same engine makes me wonder why?
The R6S and FZ6 (especially in stock form) are very different bikes. The weight difference is noticeable, the steering geometry is totally different (kinda like race versus cruiser different), and the suspension parts certainly bargain bin on the FZ6. You'd be surprised by how different the tuning is on the R6S versus the FZ6. The FZ6 is designed to be more stable in lower RPMs (more predictable torque) while the R6S has a kick in the lower RPMs. The analogy I like to use is the difference between a Mustang GT and a Mustang V6. Sure they share a lot of commonalities but the GT model uses a lot of primo parts. And I'm sure the difference between a Mustang GT and a Shelby Mustang isn't all that great. That's kind of like the difference between the R6S and R6 (aka R6R or R6 4th gen). How many riders can make use of the benefits of the R6R vs. R6S? Probably 1 in 20. Same goes for the Mustang GT & Shelby. And most of those benefits are probably best extracted on the track. However, how big of a difference is the V6 vs. GT or the FZ6 vs. the R6S? Awwww...a lot more fun and almost every bit as usable. Plus you get the benefits of upgraded suspension, braking, etc.

BTW, I don't have a lot of money to throw at bikes, I'm doing this a piece at a time. But when your credit union makes an R6S (or an R6 for that matter) less than $150/month (actually $137/month) and only 15% down ($1100 I think). I can find ways of scraping together $150. ;) The R6S was the bike I really wanted but was afraid of killing myself on when I first started. Now I have it and I'm happy.
