you know what would look awesome? painting the fairing in the same color as the tank and other stuff on the bike and then throw some yamaha racing decals on there, like the ones, they used for the racing replica 03-05 r6 series!
something like these here :

then throw on that R1 rear end that french company is making built to fit the fz6 and sell the other one on ebay and then it`ll be a perfect FzR6^^

greetz alex
I'm not a huge fan of the Rossi look but I certainly dig the OEM style from the US 03-05 R6 and the Euro R6/R1 of 2007.

I also kinda like how this flat black looks. Maybe add the "Yamaha Race Stripe" like they did in the FZ6 Cup. I also love how this tank on the DPM bike looks.

I take back my black comments now that I have seen your blue tank and white stickers. I like the white blue combo.

Hey oso,
what do you think, since I`m gettingt nearer to end of this semester i took some time and looked around on Ebay and found this:

Für Yamaha YZF R6 (98 02) Aftermarket Verkleidung NEU 2 bei eBay.de: Markenspezifische Teile (endet 29.01.08 19:47:39 MEZ)

it is a full R6-fairing made of plastic, not reinforced fibre and comes allready painted.... i think it sounds like a good deal, getting the whole package for as low as 360€ (with shipping included from china)

the only problem is, it is a 99-02 R6-fairing, what is your guess, if it would fit?!
i think, if i remember it correctly, it is a little wider around the tank-region, but the main issue, or thoghts im having is, if the lower fairing part would fit?! any ideas on that issue?

that be so sweet, if alos that fairing yould be made to fit, since i want t street legal and the headlight for the 99-02 model is only about 110€
eBay Motors: Yamaha R6 Headlight 99,00,01,02 * NEW OEM * Head Light (item 260204463924 end time Jan-24-08 15:05:17 PST)

as seen in that link, compared to :
eBay Motors: *NEW* OEM YAMAHA R6 03, 04, 05 HEADLIGHT YZFR6 03-05 (item 280193369034 end time Jan-24-08 12:35:46 PST)

almost double that in the 03-05 model :-/

so i`m not really sure what i should do now...

the total package, Painted R6-fairing plus a Headlight i could get for 750€ for the 03-05 model.... which i think is allready cheap for what you get, but not cheap enough for me... unfortunately

or go with the cheaper 99-02 fairing-headlight package, which would sum up to probably 500€ which is a damn good deal and i could get it in red, white and black coloured, which would be cool since my fz6 is black...

I allready found a guy who is able to weld steal and also Niro steel and seems to make some good work frm it and since i helped him out with his computer for some 5-6 hours in total he told em if iz wasN´t too much work, he would do it for me, i mean, welding a fairing stay... :-)

teh only thing i`m concerned about right now is if it might be possible ti fit the 99-02 R6`s fairing to my fz6...

anyway i chose, i guess, since those fairings are plastic, it shpuldN´t be too hard to cut off a little and make it fit?!
anyone a lower from the older R6 to try out ?!

oh well..^^
beter start egtting some more stuff done here,

greetz and in hopefull anticipation of tips,

alex

OSO,

I admire your courage to experiment. Nice job! My bike has been customized for aggressive long-distance commuter riding on twisty secondary roads.

After a few close calls with cagers at intersections I decided to try the "over-the-top" yellow paint scheme. Going on 2 years now with no incidents!!!

The FZ6 is a well built, affordable, fun bike that can be made even better with a few mods to suit your riding style.

I paid $325 USD (~225 EUROS) for my unpainted fairings. Having them pre-painted is a big bonus. Making the fairing stay that will hold up the upper AND hold up the headlights will be your biggest challenge. I don't recall anyone who has tried to put on that generation of plastics. Good luck if you decide to go that route.

So I finally took off the fairings and brackets so that I could sand off the brackets and then give them a couple coats of anti-rust paint. All but one bracket came off. The one on the kickstand side. The bolt is a little to long and hits the kickstand before it can be removed. That means I need to either borrow a floor jack or prop my bike in my trailer, but either way, the kickstand has to come off temporarily.

Yes. It's placed where the centerstand used to mount. It keeps the backend of the R6 lower attached.

DefyInertia, ktravelet, others....I got a "very rough" quote today on making some 6061 Aluminum Set Back Plates. I don't want to give away what it is just yet, but let's just say it'll make it very easy for me to sell a bunch of sets to people here on SBN.
