Gotta chance to sit on it....Wow! Feels just like my R6S. About 2 inches back and 3/4" inch up. Made from 3/16" steel plate so it looks a little heavy but they feel stable. I'll have a chance to get pics tomorrow...
Did you ever get the pics of these plates? I want to see how they function. I am also curious how the bike looks together.
Nope. Forgot my camera that day. But my customizer is getting a CAD file produced and is having a set of aluminum plates made for me. The plates weren't pretty or lightweight: 3/16" unfinished steel with 2 holes, 1 divet, and 2 10mm bolts tack welded. The 2 10mm bolts let the original rearset be mounted to the plate with a simple nut and washer. The customizer also cut and flipped the shifter and has the shifter rod running on the outside. This part was similar to how others have done this. I should have my plates back by Monday or some time this weekend. I'll post pics when I have them mounted up.
Ok, thats kinda what I was wondering. I might be in for getting one of these. This may be a nice cheap alternative to the rearsets I was gonna get.
I also sent you a pm on the forks. I wouldn't mind having a second set of forks. I need to rebuild mine and I would like to have a set to switch out so the bike is ridable.
I'm still interested in the setback plates as well.
I was talking to the customizer about how easy it is to make them. He said it wasn't that hard, just a couple of hours of work, but that it was tedious with the tools he has and that a CNC machine could churn them out in a few minutes. It isn't worth his time to make a dozen of them by hand. I'm gonna see if he could give me that CAD file or if I have to buy it from him.
Gonna run down to the shop today and hopefully pick up my finished aluminum set back plates. Definitely gonna ask about fabbing up a couple dozen more sets.
hey oso, i was just thinking... you've got your forks pretty far up in the triple with clips ons but bar mounts are just sticking out... why not just use a new triple all together? i'm not sure if any current ones will fit, but what about your customizer CNCing a new upper triple, which has cuts/places for the clips ons? I think this would be a great way to clean up the bike as well as something for others to use who want clips ons. might be an intensive design tho because of the ignition and what not, but if not making a whole new triple, perhaps modding a 03-04 upper triple. I know the forks are spaced a little differently but couldn't that be handled with a cnc?
hmm after looking through some specs... nothing oem or aftermarket will work. The spacing on the forks from <04 doesn't work because of the 120/60 tire the triple tree will fit the fork tops, but are too far in. Everything from 05+ has inverted forks but the right 12/70 tire. hmm maybe you're customizer could make something? dunno how much R&D would be needed to see how strong the design would be, if any at all. just a thought.

someone else on here a few years ago had a new triple tree made. He went a step further and made one for the inverted forks. If you are going to go to all that trouble you should do it right. On a side not, the problem isn't the triple tree hitting the clipons, it is the clip ons hitting the stock fairings.

I'm not sure what you're trying to solve by changing the triple...It's only a minor annoyance that the clip-ons hit the tank at the moment. And there's probably a good reason why FAZR6 didn't use an R6 triple set (which I have) but don't know why that is (that predates me joining the forum by a few months). The clip-ons hitting tank or plastic is only a problem if you're using OEM plastics and it's not a problem if you're naked or using custom plastics. If you want to give this a try, I'll sell you my R6 triple tree (top and bottom triple, triple tree stem rod, broken ignition, missing crown nut) for $50 shipped. Otherwise, I have no intention going this way at the moment. Customizer asked me this too, though. My reason to him was that the way I have things now, was known to work.

You're speaking of Nor_Cal_Tuna's bike. His mod is linked in the Aftermarket Mods Thread and I believe he put in over 100 hours of work (at $65/hr at my local shop's rate, thats $6,500 worth of labor).
BTW, I spent $650 in labor to have the fairing stay cut and modified to fit the R6 upper, have an R6 front cut to fit the FZ6, have mounting brackets made to mount the lower to the center stand hols, and to have the set back plates made. Pics in the next message.
Well...my customizer is getting hard to get a hold of. He's splitting time between 3 shops and my local shop is losing out. I don't think i'm gonna be able to a CAD file out of him. Anyways, here out the steel plates he made as set back plates. When I get a chance to mount them this weekend, I'll show you how he cut and flipped the shifter rod. Someone else had done something similar.
He did a lot more than just the triple. I think a lot of his time had to have been on the swingarm and the exhaust. Getting a triple cnc'd would not cost that much, especially if you got someone experienced to do it.

Oh sure....but Nor_Cal_Tuna was pretty proud of the work he did on the triple.
Here's a bit from his thread.

enjoy. I can help anyone who wants this as well as manufacture the parts needed for a reasonable cost. The toughest part is, no joke, cutting your engine.
I did this work at Mammoth Motorsports, my roomates shop, in Rohnert Park, California. There is approximately 100 man hours in it, including paint and prep but not including shopping and part fiche phishing.
