Question Possible FZ6 Mirror Mod

I just completed the first mod to my FZ1, and I see potential for this to work on the FZ6. Basically, the left and right mirrors are switched, which results in the mirrors being lower and wider. No more shoulders in the mirror! It also reduces turbulence from the mirrors, which is not a small difference. I'm not sure if it will work or not, but I think its well worth checking out, FWIW. From what I remember, the FZ6 has almost the exact same mirrors, if not the exact base.

For reference, check out the FZ1 instructions here: http://www.yamahafz1oa.com/fuzzyones...irrormod.shtml

Check out a few pics of the mod. I don't have any good before shots, but if you look close in the group shot, you can see the stock position.

Update. It doesn't look like this mod will work as easy with the FZ6 mirrors. The FZ1 mirror stalks are a bit longer, and aluminum, whereas the FZ6 has plastic stalks.

But...The FZ1 mirrors will fit on the FZ6, they use the same base! Maybe if someone will volunteer to do a test fit (pelon, chanzilla, thomasif) we could get an idea of how it will look/function.

I was thinking of swapping the mirrors for gsxr ones. Why? because they have turnsignals. I ordered a lightly scuffed one off of ebay a few days ago for really cheap. I know the angle from the body isn't right, but I want to tear them apart and see how hard it would be to make work. On the 07 fz's the signals stick out below the fairing and I want to see if I can legally clean it up.

I always wondered how hard it would be to do this. Even if the mounting bases are different, chances are, you can drill out the rivet at the rotating joint, and switch bases. You just replace it with a 6mm bolt. I'm curious now to find out if this could be done. I'd be willing to bet that any of the yamaha sportbike mirrors are interchangeable (the mounting bases anyways)
One member had R1 mirrors on his bike, Jax1150 I think it was.

Default FZ6 mirror mod

I have just completed this mirror mod on my 2005 FZ6, worked a treat i had to build up some black silicone on to the shaft of the mirror so the rubber boot fits but was worth it ( see pictures of before and after) hope the picture work as i am new to this site.

Follow the instructions I listed in one of the above posts. The instructions are for an FZ1, but they share the same mirror design. The 6 has plastic mirror stalks instead of metal used on the 1.
