Default PUIG Touring Windscreen

OK, so finally I’ve decided to deal with the 75mph+ wind noise and bought a PUIG Touring windscreen. This was sort of a long shot as there aren’t very many reviews about this screen. I was hoping it wouldn’t have the double bubble install problems I was reading about all over the forums.

How To: PUIG Touring windscreen

Materials used: PUIG Touring windscreen (smoke) http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...PUIG_label.jpg
Pro-Bolt black windscreen screws http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e3...h/pro_bolt.jpg

Removal of the stock windscreen was as easy as lifting up rubber mirror boots, removing 4 plastic screws 2 by each mirror and 1 on the bottom center.

I was hoping it wouldn’t have the double bubble install problems I was reading about all over the forums but unfortunately, this windscreen was not exactly simple bolt on since the top of the windscreen was not laying flat on the body; instead there was awkward gap so I ended up cutting one of the thread rubber inserts that came with the Pro-bolt set to make a spacer (see below).

Here is the rubber edging that came with the PUIG windscreen, it comes in one long piece that i cut into 2 to go along the headlamp.

Now the before and after photos...

There are a number of reports that the taller touring windshield does not reduce wind buffeting.

What's the measurements on the Puig Touring? Any good (or bad) news on it's performance? Thanks for the pics.

It does seem like much of difference when lookin at the pics but there is. I know I bought one and I am very satisfied when compared to stock. Mine is dark smoke and looks bad ass on my bike.

Default Puig Double bubble screen wind protection

I got the Puig double bubble a month ago. I regularly drive about 10-15 miles on the interstate during my work commute. The Puig has helped alot with reducing wind buffet and I am very happy with it. I also had to use some extra pieces of rubber tubing (I used fuel line) and longer screws on the top two mounting holes but it fits fine without any vibration.

I took a short test ride this morning to see if the new windscreen made much difference and have to agree with segue00. Not only it didn't reduce wind buffering it deflected it just high enough to get most of it on my helmet rather than my chest (which was the case with the stock screen). I'll give it some time to see if i'm just being extremely critical (due to false expectations ) but for now, i can't say I would be recommending this windscreen. I guess it may work better for shorter riders, I'm 5'9 for comparison.

I have the double bubble Puig, which also came with the rubber edging, but I'm almost positive that it goes around the top of the windscreen, instead of around the headlight. That's where I put it, and that's the only place the I've seen it on other Puigs.

Bummer about the touring shield not giving the results that you wanted. I first tried the tall yamaha shield and was disappointed. It was ugly and not effective. The double bubble works well for me.

I wasn't too sure about the edging myself but decided to install it along the headlamp to eliminate the annoying gap. Honestly i wasn't impressed with the fitting of the PUIG screen and you're probably right that the edging should go along the top.
Like i said, i'll leave this windscreen on the bike for now to see how it works out but have to say, i've been checking around the web prices of the double bubble already ) (I'm thinking i have the homebrew spacers already so it should be an easy swap!!!).

Agreed. The Puig looks pretty, but it just a flat piece of plastic bent into shape, unlike the nice cast factory piece. To help solve the fitment problem around the lights, I used small, self-adhesive, black rubber cabinet door bumpers along the inside edge of the shield, in order to raise it enough to not lay against the headlight.

Yup, your spacers will drop right in.

I was tempted to take a ride without any windshield on. Did you try it?

Did anyone tried to use a wind deflector (like the ones used on SUV, usually installed at the front of the engine hood) that could bolt on the top of the original windscreen and reduce the amount of wind getting to the face?
Would it be a good idea to use such a thing?
