Can someone get a bit more detail on taking it apart? I tried last night and not even some Heinekens could push away the feeling that I was going to break it.
NEED HELP
the two wrap-around part of teh horn I can get, but that tab on the end...not sure which way to pry it without breakign it. any other tabs?

Those are called 'quick disconnect' terminals and they come with the barrel mounted 'sideways'. That should do it. I have some non-insulated that were a bitch to find but got a box of them now. To get an idea of what I'm talking about, look at the wire terminal on your headlight bulb.

You wont need the tab on the top any ways so it doesn't matter if you were to break that. Its likely the pressure fit of the o-ring thats preventing you from pushing it up and out. Its been a while so I really cant remember what other tabs it may have had. I do remember having a bit of trouble separating the compressor as well.

Using any kind of terminal connector will not work. It's that close of a fit. Unless yours has slightly more room then mine, and I don't see why it would. My compressor actually touches the plate of the bottom of the tank. So no go on the spade connectors. Not to mention it would not sit flat with spade connectors on the bottom. The 2 pressure points could eventually wear a hole in the rubber mat the horn sits on. Thus potentially causing a short if it were to wear through. My method is only slightly more work and guaranteed not to have problems.
Let me know if yours happens to fit using spade connectors.
As far as the quick disconnect goes, attached is the image. Attachment 126594
It would be very minimal in how much it sticks up.
I HATE the instructions on that thing...it only covers electrical, which is a no-brainer. I wish it had instructions for taking it apart, or why it has to be mounted upright. Its just an electical motor with a compressor in there...who fkn cares what position it is?!? It shouldn't matter and to be honest, I might mount it as I want.
I have to take it apart first. "up and out"? I better re-read your instructions. I was just trying to pull it apart.

Ok...on the 'arm' that wraps around the compressor/motor, the one with the rib, you pull it out...you'll see a tab that goes in there...then pry it from the head/latch looking point, which needed to be pulled out a bit, but use the prying force upward to separate.
ok...i did this in front of the laptop gotta go to the garage and see what else I can do at 11:30pm
That 'tab' on the arm seems to go through the 'rib' is an inlet for the compressor...that extra plastic piece is so you can attach a hose to it (I'm taking an educated guess).
The wire terminal I put a picture up on earlier is the type I was talking about...mine are actually smaller. Those will not stick out more than the black plastic does. The spade terminal is a little 'inside' and the top of the barrel of the quick disconnect would be flush or near flush with the black part. I bought them so I can avoid modifying the plug on hte dual headlight mod (adding a wire into the terminal). if you need one for this mod, because of spacing, hit me up with a PM and send me a stamped envelope.
I haven't seen where you plan to mount it on my own actual bike so I'm unclear to the details involved but something could be put there if there's fear of the terminals getting damaged to insulate it...a slab of rubber, foam insulation, or even just some cardboard.
It pisses me off that the instructions want this thing mounted in a certain position...I work with compressors and electrical motors as my career...I have no fucking clue why it says so. Two reasons why I can think of:
1. horns are usually aimed at the ground for acquistic effects
2. so any wetness that can get caught up in the horn portion will drip out.
I'm most likely to mount this sideways and make it easy...maybe even in the right side in that plastic by the rear seat (dont know what its called...says FZ6 on it)

Installed it...not impressed. Sounds like a 1920's car to me. If I heard that, I'd expect something with wooden wheels behind me. I've actually heard that tone on Harleys, and wasn't too impressed with them either.
I can make a .wav file with my mp3 player. I have a switch so you can hear the oem first, then this thing.
Recommend the highway blaster or whatever that other one is. I dont know what that sounds like but you can run the wiring parallel with oem or just drop-in replace it. I mounted the horn toward the end of the front fairing, ran the hose through the front of the gas tank area, and tossed the compressor in the airbox...which I cut open (silencer removed) while I had the tank up.
I didn't want to buy a tap and thread the thing, but it was easier to do that than try to hunt down a fitting that would just smash in there. Forgot to toss in the relay though
FREE HOSE for this mod. I bought a whole roll and I have PLENTY for another mod (maybe two). Hit me up. You can borrow my tap also, or buy it for a Heineken.

Seriously?!? Are you sure it's working right?
I just installed mine in my front left faring and it's louder than hell! Sure it's a higher pitch than a semi-truck horn, but it's friggn attention getting that's for sure. Sounds like a train comming!

I installed this horn on my YZF and it has more than paid for itself.
I used the same method as the original poster but I had enough room under my seat to mount the compressor and use the same clear hose to run those hose; zip tied to the frame. I mounted the horn section in the same location as the stock horn using zip ties.
I highly recommend this mod. It is especially effective as an inattentive driver alert system.

I removed the horn and I think I found the problem. The switch might have been causing a voltage drop. My oem horn sounded a bit louder without it going through the switch. I dont know...I'm going to hotwire the horn and check it out again when I have time to burn and dont feel like riding.
