Awesome, thanks! Hopefully I can finish up real quick before work tomorrow and put on the fender and be done with this!

ok so i just finished this mod ... wow its so easy ... i did it myself with nothnig but hand tools ... total time from start to finish ? 1.5 hours ... woot ... i guess having the 2008 model makes a huge dif, i didn't need to install the calipers that came in the kit, i just used my existing 08 calipers and they bolt on with the shims behind it....
I just need to look for an r6 fender now ...

If i remember correctly, the R6 fender requires you to use the smaller R6 tire size as well... Might wanna check into it before buying one...

Thought I'd share my experience with making my own wheel spacers. I didn't have any stainless steel available to me at the time but I did have some aluminum(6061). I'm putting myself through the machine tool tech classes at the local junior college and figured it would be a good project to see if I could hold to the tolerance of the wheel spacer drawings. With a little luck and a lot of patience, working on a lathe older than I am, I got them made!
Now the real test was putting them on the bike and riding with them on there...I survived and so did they.
Here they are when I finished them:
Here's after 6,000 miles of use:

Very very nice. Any chance of mass producing these?

The R6 fender was indeed made for a 120/60 series tire instead of 120/70. That said I am using an R6 fender with my R6 forks. It worked okay mounted normally but going over gravel you could hear the pebbles scraping the inside of the fender because it was very close to the tire (~3mm). To fix this I simply took out the rubber grommets the bolts go through on the fender, enlarged the hole a bit, making it an oval shape, and reinserting the grommets approximately 4mm lower down. You can't see the enlarged hole with the grommet back in place, and it is held in place when the fender is tightened down do it doesn't slide around. This gives plenty of clearance between the tire and fender. There is also a nub on the inside top of the fender that I sanded down. It appears to be where Yamaha filled the mold from. I do plan on getting some plastic putty to make the oval a circle again before I get it painted, but it works just fine as an oval. I've put about 1,500 miles on it like this with no problems.

Thanks! I don't think there is much of a chance of mass production, I don't have the means to get anything going. Pretty much a one off item for me to test out how the aluminum held up.
The two wear marks where the oil seal seats against the spacers has actually worn down a couple of thousandths. I'm just not sure that the aluminum will withstand long term use. I might try a 7075 series aluminum just to see the difference.

I'm not sure which series it is, but I'm almost certain that there's one that's hardenable...

Put on my R6s forks and brakes today...WOW. SOOOOOO much more planted, SOOOOO much less chatter over rough road. So much less brake dive. It feels like a whole new bike.
Thanks to everyone who has helped out by pioneering this mod, and those that answered all of my questions and stuff.
Super Mod. The stock forks feel like they should be on a toy motorcycle. The new ones rock.
