Default Re-post brake line info

Just a follow up I posted this in the original thread and when I saw it pop back to the top figured I should repost some info for when I went and got brake lines for this project.
Ordered mine from:
http://www.cyclebrakes.com
I had them do custom lengths and ends for mine but from what I know the stock length ones should work fine to, I just figured to do mine custom since I was ordering new ones. I had them put strait end on all ends except the longer of the 2 lines I had them put a offset so when you put them together at the master cylinder it would fit better You should see what I am talking about in the pictures below.
Edit: Oh thought this maybe good info for someone out there and we seem to get alot of new folks to the forum all the time now a days.

yeah, my calipers came with washers for the bolts, so I was wondering if I use those too, or just the bolts and the custom shims. it looks like I just do the latter, so thanks.

This may be a stupid question. Why can't you just slide the R6 forks into the FZ6 tripple clamp?

You are just sliding the forks into the FZ6 triple clamp. The trick is the brake caliper to brake disc alignment, which will be off because the R6 forks are closer together when mounted in the R6 triple clamps. When mounted in the FZ6 triple clamp, if the proper spacers are not used the front brakes will not work (clearance/functional).

Though I've asked this in another thread, just wondering if anyone has tried this process, but with the '05 Inverted R6 Forks/Calipers yet... Anyone?

I actually think the inverted forks are to big to fit in our triples but its hard to say for sure without one to measure up and verify.

I think I found that the 04-05 r1 brake setup will bolt onto the 03/04 R6 fork. Can anyone verify this? It looks like people are saying that the R1 brakes will bolt onto the R6 fork, as an upgrade. If this is the case, then obviously we could put them on our r6 upgrade as well.

I am not sure the year but Mike(FAZR6) is running R1 calipers you may want to PM to make sure the year he has, but I would think if you found some where that says they will fit the 03-04 R6 forks you should be good to go. I thought the only difference was the color(gold) of the inserts but I could be wrong.

I think the R1 calipers went radial at some point but I haven't investigated since doing my mod. Your best tool is to use the microfiche and compare the looks of the late model calipers to the 99-04 R6 calipers. If they look identical in the drawings then they probably are. If you aren't sure but think they are, then just take a chance and buy them. You can always sell them on ebay if they don't fit.

so if they're radial, then they won't work?

Radial doesn't work. See the pictures below of the 2003 and 2004 calipers. The 2003 is not radial but the 2004 is. I "cautiously believe" that the R1 calipers will work up to 2003 but not 2004 or 2005.

I think I understand now. They basically mount differently.

Another question about master cylinders. I know you can hook up any master cylinder to any caliper, but my question is this...

I saw someone advertising that the 05 R6 master has a bigger piston than the earlier ones. This would mean that it would give more pressure to the piston. Does anyone know if this would be too much pressure so as to make the brakes touchy? I certainly don't want that. I just thought if I'm buying parts, why not get better ones ;)

Thanks again for all the info. It's good info to have here anyway. I'm sure I'm not the first one to wonder this while doing the fork mod.

yep...bigger piston, more pressure, stronger braking. Too much? NEVER! (IMO)

First post, so hello board!
Just wondering if this has been done on an '05 fz6. Not sure if its different from the 04's, I hope its not. I'm hoping its all still the same and I'd just have to use 04 r6 forks on it because it was mentioned that the 05's are different. I'd really like to do this eventually since, well... it'd be cool!

yes, it's the same. At least I hope. I've got all the parts already on the way.
