Default Lightning Strike Kills Man on Motorcycle

Man, this is just too weird! I never even think about this stuff. In fact I worry a lot about the rain and the reduced visibility, but not the lightning. But I have to believe it is just "being in the wrong place at the wrong time". Nothing particularly electrically "attractive" about a moving motorcycle on the road. It just kinda all came together at that moment in time.

Although I personally do make my bike more attractive when I am on it.

(April 27) -- A Lawrence, Kan., man died Saturday after he was struck by a bolt of lightning as he and six companions rode their motorcycles through a rainstorm, the Lawrence Journal-World reported.

Troy Gentzler, 45, was killed shortly after visiting an abuse victim for the northeast Kansas chapter of Bikers Against Child Abuse.

The bolt struck as the group was traveling between the towns of Grantville and Perry.

"You can sum it up in one word: bizarre," Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Herrig told the newspaper.

A woman riding next to Gentzler was injured in the accident. She was treated at a hospital and released.

Bikers Against Child Abuse supports children who have suffered physical or sexual abuse. Members of Gentzler's chapter conducted their annual tour Saturday, visiting people who had been in the program for several years, the Journal-World reported. Gentzler had been a member for about two years.

I heard about that. I live in Lawrence, Ks. Crazy stuff.......hope it doesn't happen to anyone ever but I guess it can be a risk in a bad thunderstorm. I got caught in one about 7 years ago in Lawrence and tried to wait it out but it didn't stop, so me and my cousin rode home in the storm (about 3 miles) and 1/2 way there lighting struck in a field about 100 yards to the left of us. Scared the shit out of me but couldn't haul any more ass then we were as the water was deep and we were making a wake through it just trying to get home.

I was stuck in Daytona Bikeweek traffic during a bad storm once, couple inches of water everyplace, foot down, lightning struck a tree close and gave me one hell of a rush, got outta there fast. Something to think about.
