PS3 owners
Anyone have a PS3? I have some questions ??? . I got my kids one for X Mas and needed to make sure that I have everything for the system to be ready to play after they open it up. Seems that my TV is not up to date with the PS3 setup. I have the old style TV that has the cable outlet in the back. Guess the gaming TV won't work with the PS3 will it? The main TV in has jacks in the back and the AV outlet hooks right up to it. But that's not the "Gaming TV" so games won't be played much on it. What are my options? Can I route it through my DirectTV box? What are some other options that I may have? Thanx!

Bodydrop's right. You need whats called an RF adaptor. It allows you to plug in the composite A/V cables in to one end, and gives you a coax cable output.
I would also suggest, if at all possible, upgrading to a high-definition TV. Most of the features you paid the big bucks for to get a PS3 will not be avalible to you. You will not be able to watch Blu-ray discs, and all of your games will only display in 480i standard-definition. The games will still play fine and look good, but no where near what they can and did look like in the store.
I'm not sure how big your "gaming" TV is right now, but HDTV prices have been really falling lately. PM me if you have any more specific questions.

Thanx Guys! Yeah, I went and bought the RF modulator today. Also bought the S video cable. I'll keep checking those prices on those TV's and see how much they keep falling.

I bought my son XBOX360 for christmas. I have been trying it out on my tv. I have a ED Plasma. This thing rocks. Not sure about the HD. But I'll wait for that in a few more years.

Check Craigslist for TV's, I found a heck of a deal on a 36" Sony CRT. It's a few years old, but has all the hook-ups except HDMI. IT may not be HD but for 160 bucks who could argue. It was an older couple selling it, they were moving back up north and didn't want to move it. Anyway you might be able to find a better gaming TV on Craiglist...with a littel patience.

As of right now I got two games. MX vs. ATV untamed and Fightnight. I really don't play video games as much as I used to and my son is only 6 so he doesn't care about the graphics quality just yet. If I get addicted back into it I may have to upgrade.
And I have broadband so it's free for online gaming?

Your gonna have mad Signal Degredation and Choppyness the PS3 has a built in Blue Ray Disc PLayer its setup for HiDef out the box. On a CRT tube SD TV your gonna hate it. If it even fits the TV correctly. RF Modulators add noise too and a delay. When Downgrading the Video to a Analog (coax) signal your gonna have game delay issues like push a button and youll see a lil lag... My opinion is get like a lil 20-25 LCD TV with an HDMI input or Component inputs.. If you dont you wasted 500 bucks on a New Shinny PS2 lol thats basically how its gonna look!!
I have a Xbox 360, Standard Xbox and a PS2 all on Different connections By far the HDMI 360 is like watching a movie when playing a game.. PS2 is setup in hidef with component cables so its a lil better when running interlaced. Your CRT wont be able to handle that type of input. Well it will but yo wont like it.
My Plasma Supports up to 1080i even still at 50" its awesome looking. Time to save for a TV upgrade brotha!!
EDIT* I just looked up PS3 RF modulators because i remember them having an issue... I was right. There is a known issue with them not showing Video through Modulators it will cut in and out or not at all. I got this info from the PS3 Forum on Sonys PS3 site.
Minimum Requirements
PLAYSTATION 3 computer entertainment system
SIXAXISTM wireless controller (and USB cable)
AC power cord AV Cable
TV or display monitor with composite inputs (also called AV inputs) - identified by the yellow, white, and red RCA jacks
Also, if the PS3 system is connected to the TV through a VCR, you will not be able to view DVD movies. This is because of the copyright protection coding that has been programmed into the discs by the DVD manufacturers.
VCR acts as a modulator to an analog signal... But there seems to be a work around if you use a PS1 or PS2 RFU Factory adapter it will work in ANalog mode but you need to have the RFU box to tell the PS3 to switch to analog. After that you wont be able to Change any Audio Video settings. Hope this helps!!

Online gaming is the best way to enjoy these systems. Honestly Before i renewed my Xbox live account my 360 collected dust. once you beat a game its just boring. There is Way more action onlie plus your not fighting a predictable AI your playing unpredictable Humans... Best game action ever!!! If your kids are into those card games like pokemon or whatever they have this bad ass card game for the PS3 Where you play with a deck of cards but you have a lil pad you put the cards on. When you insert them in the game the charactors come alive on the screen and you interact with them... I kinda want a PS3 to try that out. Check this one out

between 1080 and 720 your really just talking about size and LCD redraw rate. Most tvs run 1080i i for interlaced it takes a lil longer to redraw the picture over 1080p p for progressive. all cable and HD is 90% INterlaced its not progressive yet. 720p would come in handy when watching Blu Ray Discs true Hi def. I run 1080i because i have a 50" i need more pixels per inch than a TV of 19"s. If i were you look at plasmas. between the two is night and day. LCD is going to have a lower viewing angle so with a 19" screen yod have to sit directly in front of it to get the best picture. I assume you hae two kids so having them sit side by side they are gonna run into picture fuzziness. Colors between the two are completly different. Im not sure on exact numbers But LCD has somewhere in the nehibor hood of 20million colors it can display which is good but when compaired to plasmas like 80million colors .... If you want life like color and depth plasma is way better. Also you get true black with Plasma LCD can not produce a true black color its a greyish wash color so you can run into shawdow issues with games. Like you walk into a dark room and its just Pitch black because the LCD cant filter different wave lengths of black its just black.
The TV your looking at is a nice TV just not one id use for Gaming on a PS3 id use it for a small bed room TV.
Your wanting to look for something with a HIGH contract ratio like 10000:1 or higher that way you get a better range of colros and depth.
You also want at least 1 HDMI input. HDMI carries your True HD Signal and Dolby Digital Sound. Youll get a beter soundscape/soundstaging as well. The only Down fall to a plasma is potential for burn in. In a lot of games where you have like a compass or health meter on the screen for long periods of time the outline can sometimes get burnt in. Which is annoying but useually fixable.
I had a huge debate on LCD vs Plasma and costs. and i ended up with a 50" HDMI 1080i plasma... Trust me ill never go back to a CRT TV again. But again CRT is the only way to achieve REAL TRUE color. Plasma is second in line.
Rule of thumb is you usually Always get more TV per dollar with a Plasma like a 42" lcd would cost $1300 and you could a 50" plasma for that same cost. Its gonna be an investment so be prepaired.
Cost wise believe it or not most plasmas are cheaper then LCD because its cheaper to produce. I think i paid $1300.00 for mine and its down to around 900$. If your looking at cheaper ones. Try brands like Vizio from Sams/Wal-Mart LCD and plasma isnt a product that can made cheaply.. they all use the same process the only difference is the hardware inside or advanced that is. Me persoanlly if i were to invest in a second TV for a game room or Football room... id go for a 32"-42" Plasma That will give you the best range for both. Im not a big football guy But i usually get emerssed in games in HD because well its like being there. And we all know when The wifey gets pissed and kicks you out of the living room you always need a backup TV !!! lol
Hope i helped a lil bit.

Plasma TVs have been around a little longer than LCD TVs, and their technology is a little further along. Plasma screens use a phosphor coating like tube TVs, so they have the natural color we're used to with tube models. Plasmas have better contrast and black level performance than LCDs, and offer slightly wider viewing angles. People often describe plasma's picture quality as richer or more "cinematic," so it's a great choice for a home theater, or your main TV.
A plasma TV might be for you if:
You want really rich, warm colors and deep blacks.
You'll be sitting off-axis when you watch TV or movies.
You don't watch a lot of TV shows or play lots of video games with static images on the screen for more than a few hours at a time.
Your viewing room doesn't have a lot of ambient light, or you can easily reduce the light by closing the blinds, for example.
If you're looking at screen sizes under 37", LCD is your only flat-panel choice. LCD looks great in a kitchen or any other room with bright lighting. LCD displays are better at resisting glare from sunlight or room lights, and they're very bright (brighter even than plasmas). LCD is also one of the most rugged display types. Its total immunity to screen burn-in makes LCD an ideal choice if your viewing includes frequent computer or video game use. And if you leave your TV on for hours at a time tuned to a news or sports channel with a scrolling "ticker," LCD would be a safer TV choice.
A flat-panel LCD TV might be for you if:
You watch a lot of TV shows or play lots of video games with static images on the screen for extended periods of time, multiple days a week.
Your TV room is relatively bright, or you do a lot of daytime viewing.
There are many more 1080p LCD models than plasma — that's the highest resolution currently available, so you'll see a very sharp, detailed picture.
LCD TVs are usually more energy efficient than plasma models of the same size.
