Default Bike shops in Fort Myers...

Looking to rebuild my 1996 GSX-R 750 that was involved in a hit & run crash back in 2004.

While I was living in Ireland, 2004-2005, my brother was hit by a drunk driver who fled the scene! A titanium hip later and three years, I finally got back to Florida to see the bike. It looked better than I thought so I think I'll try to resalvage my first bike EVER.

The front fairing (headlights, bracket, wiring,) is toast and needs to be rebuilt. Everything else LOOKS ok. I need to have someone look at the frame and the forks before investing the time and money it'll take to get things rolling.

I just need to pass along the names of some reputable mechanics who can do the work or at least inspect the bike before I ship it to Arizona where I currently reside.

Any help is appreciated.

I'm about an hour and a half north of Ft Meyers. I'm not a pro mechanic but I know my way around a bike... Just going by the pics, I'd say a parts list would look something like this

Front brake MC reservoir
I have an extra 900RR one that will work.

I'm sure it needs a new battery too... unless your brothers kept it on a battery tender all this time. FTX9-BS about $40 at local car quest. Mine was $37.50 IIRC

You could skip a lot of that stuff if you just wanted to put a streetfighter headlight on it

Before putting any money into parts though, it would be important to get the motor started and make sure it will run and idle and rev without throwing a bearing or seizing or anything(due to oxidization of the internals), if it does, it's gonna have to be parted out. First thing I'd do is change the oil, pull the plugs and put a teaspoon of oil in each cylinder, drain all the gas, put fresh gas and seafoam in, throw the battery from my bike in, and crank it up...
How long has it been since the bike ran? Did it ever run after the accident or at all in the last 3 years??? If the frame was tucked you would be able to tell by looking at the neck and main spars very closely and look for ripples or a crease. If the frame is tucked or motor is seized, it will have to be parted out, which I could do on ebay if you'll split the profits with me 75/25 or something like that? I seriously doubt the frame is tucked though, the older SRAD gsxr frames were pretty beefy. The forks might be alright too, inverted forks are very strong, but I see the adjuster is ripped off the left tube and the damper rod is likely F'd as well. That's the only reason I put fork tubes in the list(those are some sweet forks for a steal at what $ they're at now). Triples could be bent but no way to tell that without riding it and seeing if it pulls. Fork tubes look like they might be twisted in the triples but that's easily fixed.
If you're looking for someone to adopt it, I wouldn't mind having it as a foster bike type project and try to get it back up and running if you'll pay for my gas down there and back and for oil, filter, seafoam and stuff to get it running, and something for my time. I have room in my garage, and if it starts and runs and you wanna bid on ebay parts and have them sent to me, I'll rebuild it at a perfunctory rate of like $20/hr in my spare time. I could start a thread or even use this one to keep a log of my time in and post pics of the progress. It is kinda going out on a limb to trust someone you don't know with your bike, but it's better than just leaving it in storage??? and a shop is gonna charge you like $50-$70 an hour labor and want to use all factory parts... I'd be happy just to bring a bike back from the dead, maybe get to ride the thing, and make a few bucks.

I could do a price break down like this...

Gas and say $10/hr travel time($35 gas + 3hrs x $10) = $65 to pick it up...
($15 oil[Castrol GTX] + $10 filter[oem] + $5 can of seafoam + 1hr x $20) = $50 to try to get it running...
If at any point you want me to just run it up to the forwardair tampa terminal I'd do it for gas($20) + 2hrs x $10 drive time = $40
I think forwardair from Tampa to Phoenix is like $600 for a bike, and it has to get to the Tampa terminal anyway and I'm halfway between there and Ft. Meyers, so it works out.

Anyway, just puttin it out there...
