First off, Im giving you constructive crtisism(sp?) so dont get defensive.

If your a new rider how do you know that a 600 is not enough power despite the fact that you have rode it. Do you realise(sp?) that the 600's now are lighter and faster than they have ever been. 600's are cranking the same or more than what the 1000's use to put out 6-8 years ago.

Your going to do what you want to do because its your money, bottom line, but you came in asking for advice so here it is.

Start with something small, Katana 600, Ninja 500, or 250. Yeah there not "bad ass" or look as "cool" : but you will gain alot of knowledge and experience on a smaller bike. Think about it like this, a 2003 gixxer 750 is crankin 127hp at the rear wheel, a 2003 or earlier year model Katana 600 is putting out about 80 - 85 hp. You being a inexperienced rider say you make a "rookie" mistake which you will, I promise. The accident will be more extreme on the 750 vs the Katana, or any other class of a smaller bike.

99% of the peeps in here started out on small bikes and worked there way up. Dont be fool yourself into thinking you can handle an R bike. I have read to many stories about inexperienced riders getting on 750+ bikes. You dont want to be another story.

Oh yeah and ALWAYS WEAR YOUR GEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Minnimal protection is helmet, gloves, and a jacket. Your getting ready to partake in a sport or hobby(whatever you want to call it, I call it a lifestyle) that you must accept the fact that one day you will hit the asphalt, it might not be your fault, or it might be your fault, point is though, YOU WILL HIT THE ASPAHLT ONE DAY. So make sure your dressed for it.

There are two types of riders, those that have been down, and those that are going down.

Ok im done.

I steered Spidey 750 to this site. His friends told him to buy a 1000 b/c he'd get sick of a 750 and they said 750's were slow. So ofcourse I told him his friends were retards and trying to kill him. Anyways I say, start on a 250 or a 500 and move up as your skills develope, and buy gear.
Take care,
Courtney

i started out on a YZF600 not a new fangled "R" whatever. learned alot in a year. But one of the biggest things i learned was that even though my bike was almost 10yrs older than the ones my buddies were ridding i had no problem getting up front and staying there once my abilities allowed me to. After 15k mi. in 1 year i decided i wanted something newer, not necesarilly faster, just newer. Even with a brand new bike i find myself in the same position in the group as i did before. In short, no matter what bike you've got it will only be as good or as fast as you let it. Look at a mid 90's 600, after you get used to it, play with gearing to get better acceleration and what not. But don't waste your money on something that you know (hope you do by now) you're going to trash, wreck, or wad up. Good Luck, and i wish you the best.

With the friends he has and the advice they are giving him the "trash, wreck, and wad up" theories are very likely. I wouldn't even recommend a 600 in this case, not enough experience, and he hasn't even taken the MSF course yet. Even if he had taken the MSF I wouldn't recommend a 600... This is probably one of the rare case's in life where smaller is better .

I hope people are listening to you...because you speak from experience...in fact I may have a guy I know talk with you because he is getting crazy on me every time he sees my R6!! He's only been riding 1 month and got a Kat600 which is fine for him at the moment............I am trying to steer him away from getting a 1000 or 600 within the next month like he says he wants to do!! ughhhhhhhh.....thing is--is that he was a paramedic!!!!!!!! :p

Thanks for the advise everyone and thanks for looking out for me as a new rider seeing how everyone in here has enough knowledge to lead me on to saving my life and not playing with a machine that in a instant can take it from me. Thanks again!

Everything that everyone is saying is good advise....If you are not ready yet..just don't do it. I have been in the saddle for two years now and have seen alot happen... My first one was a zx9r but I had somewhat of a clue.....

In this case I am going to have to say listen to the chics....don't do it..

I think I am going to start small. How do you guys/girls get the pic near your name in the collumn and get the sayings after your replies? Can anyone help me make a better profile on here also?

I started with a Honda 600F2. I been riding for four months. I'm already borad with the bike. Just start with a bigger bike people. Little bikes are a waste of money.
