I just saw this post and I was there....I remember heading down there and passed a guy on a Repsol, (by Palomar) thinking to myself "a newb on too much bike" as I passed him and his two buddies....

I headed down Montezuma and on the way back up, there was Maurice in the middle of the road, receiving CPR with two destroyed bikes on the road...

The lesson here, I think, is "riding skills"....anyone who gets a literbike or any "sportbike", needs a mandatory class or two....or maybe we need to implement tiered licensing like they have in other countries....

I'm very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend and riding companion. I read the post from the other forum and it made me cry. It is very evident that Maurice was a well known and loved friend to you all. God speed Maurice!

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,

He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.

Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.

Man these things hurt. Be safe all and ride with common sense.

RIP Maurice. God speed.

I'm sitting here with a cast on my leg from a cycle crash on Sunday. A kid turned Illegal U turn in front of me. Me and the bike went over the car. I'm thinking if I want to replace my bike...I'm browsing the forums, reflecting on the dangers. From what I have read Maurice was a skilled, responsible, safe rider. We LOVE this sport. It is very sad to hear such news. All of us face these risks, and we accept them. I didnt know Maurice, but we have lost a friend in our riders community. My heart goes out to his family and friends. I believe he was doing something he loved to do in riding with friends. I pray the other rider at fault pulled through. RIP Maurice .... We can all take a lesson from you ... bringing in new riders and teaching them the safe, responsible way to ride.

RIP Maurice, from what I have read he seems like a great guy and left 2 daughters behind . Remember folks, ride safe on the street, its not a racetrack. It seems like it was the other riders fault, but the way some of us ride on here that other rider could have been us. An unfourtinate reminder to tone it down a little bit on the street

Terribly sorry to hear about Maurice. RIP.

Lost 2 friends last year; saw one of them no more than 10 minutes before he went down. I have 2 young kids myself. Don't know how long I'll keep my bike with posts like this.

I read your post and the post on the aprilia forum, and .....

People seldom learn from the mistakes & experiences of others.
