Ashley Martin, from Shiptonthorpe in East Yorkshire, suffered a head injury when he crashed during a qualifying session at Cadwell Park on Sunday.

Mr Martin was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary but later died after treatment.

The British Supersport team rider was on a part of the circuit known as the Gooseneck when the accident happened.

"We are all deeply saddened by this tragic accident," said Jonathan Palmer, the chief executive of MotorSport Vision, which runs Cadwell Park.

"At this desperately sad time, our thoughts and greatest sympathies are with Ashley's family and friends.
