MESA GRANDE – A motorcyclist died yesterday after he skidded off the pavement and hit a rocky embankment along Mesa Grande Road, the California Highway Patrol said.
William Enslin, 48, of Fallbrook, an insurance agent, died soon after paramedics requested a medical helicopter, said an investigator for the county Medical Examiner's Office.
Enslin was northbound about 10 miles from state Route 76 and Lake Henshaw when he lost control of his Ducati 900 motorcycle on a downhill curve, CHP Officer Brian Pennings said. Pennings said Enslin was traveling at an unsafe speed, locked his brakes and skidded off the east shoulder, hitting a dirt-and-rock embankment.
A companion riding ahead of Enslin on another motorcycle stopped to give him first aid and phone for help about 12:50 p.m. Pennings said Enslin was wearing full safety gear, including a helmet, leather clothing and gloves.
