Default A remembrance of Katie Ashton

For those of you that remember Katie Ashton, a former SBN member who was killed while riding home from work
back on August 3rd, there is a fitting tribute to her life in the March issue of Sportrider magazine.
It's a celebration of her life by Jeff Hughes in his column - Benchracing.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I turned to the column and saw her picture (the one below) looking back at me.
The story was well written, and I commend the author for his fine remembrance of Katie.
The Sportrider website hasn't been updated as of yet, but the article should be up soon.
You should already have received your copy in the mail.

Copy the article so ppl that don't get the mag can read it. Let try to keep this one going all the way to Aug 3rd 2005. I remember her well! She will be and has been missed.

I'll have to check that out. The announcement of her death is still fresh in my mind. Such a sad thing to see an SBN'er die. I feel for her family and daughter.

I was fortunate enough to be there. As solemn as it was, it was also truly a celebration of her life.
And many there talked about her love of riding.
And why we ride.

If the Sportrider link isn't updated by this evening, I'll post up the article myself.
I don't know Jeff Hughes, but he sure seemed to capture the essence of Katie.
She had an unforgettable effect on those that knew her, even those that met her just in passing.

But I think she said it best in her own words,
"Inside my soul when I ride...
It's like a cleansing...
A rebirth or something...
Another world, a freedom."

-Katie Ashton

Ride on, Katie.

I know what you mean, I never met her in person, just new her on the net and I realy injoyed her input. It is never a good thing when we loose a rider, but when we loose a rider that has a small child at home that is just unforgetable. I hope Fred set's up the Fallen riders forum. Mybe it could be named "Katie's place!" That would be cool.

It's old news now. I put a couple links in my first post, or you can search to find the whole story.
I hoped this would just be a positive way of remembering how she lived and not so much how she died.

Really nice article in Sport Rider. I was wondering who that was when I was reading it. It's always nice when you make a positive impact on people, even though you may not be around to see the influence that you had. Great story and a tragic loss. RIP Katie.

not to rain on her parade.......

but, there are alot of peeps out there "more" worthy then katie. that do/did alot more for women m/c then she ever did. and will not get recognized. katie posted provacative pics on here, and the leghumpers went nutz.

she also ran into the back of a cab @ over 100mph.....and left a daughter behind.

so before we go put her up on a shrine......use reality vs "a dream"

Dude how about you show some fucken respect. Regardless of how she died she still was a good person and left a little girl behind. You speak as if you have never done something a little stupid on a bike before. The purpuse of the thread was to remember her for her good not for her faults you assbag. Secondly the purpuse of doing a fallen riders forum is so the ppl that didn't know you in life could get to know you in death. That why when some asshole such as yourself tries not to "RAN ON THE PARADE" but does anyways ppl don't think that the fallen ride was a sunt happy tard doing crazy shit all the time on the street. It will be able to show how the lived on and off thier bike's! I only hope you don't end up becoming a member of the fallen riders forum because I'm going to be the first asshole to "NOT RAN ON YOUR PARADE!

Ed, I don't think it's so much as to what she accomplished in MC as it might be to her passion and love of the sport itself. We'll have to see how it's written.
