After years of long rides on my former sport bikes, I am entertaining getting a sport touring bike to go on longer rides... The Ducati ST4 type? but too expensive, lol... coming off an R1 and GSXR, anything will be more comfortable anyway, lol...

I do NOT want a gold wing type of bike :lao.... but have no idea where to start... $ target? $5K ...

Day trip to Lake Placid, NY

This would be my very first attempt at sport touring, however you define that. I'll admit I suck at taking pictures, and my camera sucks as well, and more importantly, I forget to stop to even TAKE pictures!!
I blame the latter part to a very short window of riding. I have maybe 4-5 hours of tolerable temperatures then it's sun down.
So I spend most of that time simply enjoying everything.

There was so much I saw today that was absolutely breath taking, these photo's do no justice. I couldn't believe the things I saw, honestly, I never knew New York had anything like this to offer.

Lake Placid is towards the north most part of the highest peaks in the Adirondacks, I was able to see Mt Marcy (5,500 elevation/Highest mountain in NY) amongst it's sister peaks nearby quite a few times during my ride there. Simply amazing.
With the mountain terrain were huge cliffs, small lakes everywhere, plenty of pull off points for snapping photos or for people to park and go hiking.

All in all it is a pretty short trip, total miles logged exactly 300 round trip back and fourth from my house.

I'll let the pictures do some talking, but I will certainly be coming back here next riding season when I have much more day light to deal with, a better camera, and more photos!

I started out on route 9 which doesn't get very interesting until you get north of Lake George, but even then, if you've made it that far, veer right onto 9N and ride along the lake. I was riding to save time through this area at the time.
After many miles and many incredible sights, I pulled off along this little lake to take some photos and bumped into a group of cruisers.
They had me follow them down the road about a half mile for a little detour, they told me I had stumbled on one of the BEST motorcycle roads in the state.

We shook hands, I thanked them for the awesome suggestion and got a photo!

Tracy road (Watch the youtube video!/not me YouTube - Tracy Road North 2nd shot )

You can see the starting point in that vid in this pic:

For reference, this is almost directly off of exit 30 on the northway (I87)

Image: http://i614.photobucket.com/albums/tt224/Hazmatt_bucket/DSC01494.jpg

Pressing on, the temperatures fluctuated 20 degrees betweens the valleys, the roads were salted already up here.

My Halloween Ride

Halloween has been kind of lame for me since I quit trick-or-treating 27 years ago. I'm kind of lame about wearing costumes and such so Halloween parties are just somewhere to get alcohol and mingle. Trying to figure out how to tactfully bow out of a bud's costumed Halloween Party I decided to go for a ride somewhere this weekend.

While I was perusing another website I ran across the Church of Bones (aka Sedlec Ossuary) in the Czech Republic. So I go's. My intent was to get there Saturday night for my Halloween adventure. First I had to head to head to Neiderhausen for a friends birthday. Got there Friday night and went to bed early in preparation for my trip to the Church. I realized at one point that I wasn't going to make it to Sedlec without freezing to death so I reluctantly stopped in Praque:)
Image: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v199/rthomas34/Prague%202009/PragueSign.jpg

Had a great dinner and some fine Pilsner beer. Woke up early in the morning and took a stroll across the St. Charles Bridge. There was a ton of construction going on the bridge and the weather was overcast so pics were a bit disappointing. But here's a couple anyways:
