Question 996 vs RSV1000R

Hi all,

I'm hoping for some advice that might help me with a purchase decision. I'm looking at getting into the 1 litre Superbike thang & I have a line on a 2000 yellow Ducati 996 biposto with 13,000 miles that's in excellent condition except for needing a new rear tire. It's been fairly heavily tricked out: clutch cover & hydraulics mod, lots of carbon fibre bits, a chip, Remus exhaust, & a corbin seat. Never dropped. I can pick it up for $12K (cdn). My other option is a brand new 2005 (0 miles) Aprilia RSV1000R, for $16K (cdn). Any thoughts on whether it'd be worth laying out the extra $4K for the Aprilia?

TIA

I like aprilias better, but you should drive both to see what u like. Duc's cost at least 1k a year in maintenance according to the local dealer. Aprilias are also more reliable because of rotax

Thnx for the advice Delta, but I went with the 996 :-). It's awesome! Tons of power everywhere, rock solid handling and beautiful. Rode the RSV before the Duc and it was nice but maybe a bit too civilized. I just *love* the sound of the 996; the exhaust, gear whine, and clutch all make fantastic noises. Was also a bit surprised at how high you sit on the Aprilia; don't seem to be as 'one' with it as with the Ducati, although it was more comfortable, comfort's not what I was looking for...
