Question Duc 998 running hot

The Yellow 998 (love this thing!!) I recently picked up (only 1000 miles) seems to run hot, particularly when sitting in traffic. I was told that they run hot but I wanted to be sure there wasn't something else that I should do. It regularly gets above 180 and sometimes settles around 210.

Thoughts and ideas appreciated for a happy, new (to me) 998 owner.

Thanks,
D.

you can get a thermostat from someone off the net, I can't remember where I got it, it has been a while. It will help keep the temp down. I will look and let you know if I find te place.

This temp is normal. As noted, stay out of stop and go if possible!

FWIW, the warmth of the 998 is a feature for where I am at .

This is normal!
I have the same issue with mine.
I try not to get in traffic but, it cant always be avoided.
My track day body is for a 996.
The heat is not as bad!

Yup, it's typical. Even though it's liquid cooled the big twin doesn't like sitting in traffic....

210 isnt bad , I have seen 225 in traffic.
My bike does run cooler now with the Termi exhaust , eliminated the cats.
If you are really bothered by it , get the manual fan bypass.

have any of you tried water wetter, engine ice (i think that's the name), or similar product? some of these offer to have your engine run cooler than standard antifreeze?

I would like to hear any opinions about the water wetter as well.

I have never used it on my engine, I don't know if it causes any crystallization or anything else like causing your rubber hoses to degrade, but I have a friend that used it on a mini cooper that had a highly built engine in it. It really did drop the temp 15 degrees fahrenheit.

All the race approved coolant's have lubricants to keep seals and water pump lubed up.
They are supposed to help things run cooler but, have never noticed more than a few degrees in temp. (lower)

The real advantage is they don't have all the slim that antifreeze has to keep things safer on the track.

The disadvantage is that most will allow freeze if the temperature gets below 25 degrees.

Your Duc appears to be operating within normal temperature limits. Duc Superbikes don't like to be running at a stand still...and the more mods you do, the less they like standing still!

I don't recommend using Engine Ice if you do any track days as many organizations ban it because it is as slippery as anti-freeze.

Water Wetter will allow your bike to run about 10 degrees cooler (primarily because of more water, not the Water Wetter) but you will have to make sure to protect your bike from freezing temps...although I have heard of bikes with WW doing OK in temps in the high 20s...but I wouldn't want to test it on my bike.

A larger exhaust system (with the appropriate engine mods to go with it) may allow your bike to run a bit cooler as well at a stand still, as the larger diameter pipes are less restrictive to the escaping exhaust, thus resulting (perhaps) in slightly cooler temps (especially on the backs of your legs)!

However...I've got a really big exhaust on my bike...and my legs still get burned if I remained stopped for too long...
