WEST COAST DRAG RACING NEWS FLASH!
California Dragway To Get Facelift For 2005 Racing Season
While race fans across Southern California are enjoying ham, turkey and the best holiday stuffings, California Dragway will undergo several changes.
The quarter-mile dragstrip, located on the property of California Speedway in Fontana, Calif., will open its 2005 racing schedule on January 22 and showcase its new look.
On the competition side, the strip will have its shutdown area (approximately 2,200 feet) replaced with asphalt for the first time since opening in 2001. Following the new asphalt, the racing surface and shutdown area will be profilagraphed (to check for high points and low points on the track) and ground to smooth the surface.
During the winter months, California Dragway will also receive a new safety net for the end of the strip.
Other enhancements that will be made prior to the 2005 season include a new sound system and speakers to be installed near the grandstands and throughout the pits.
Another item that will change the face of California Dragway will be a new scoring tower to replace the current tower. The tower will be (60 feet) and placed just east of the strip. Timing and scoring as well as race control will be housed in this new tower.
The strip will also have an additional staging lane added at the tip end of the strip, allowing five lanes wide for cars to stage and other equipment to be moved more freely in and out.
California Dragway is sponsored by the Automobile Club of Southern California, TOYO Tires and Motegi Wheels.
