Daytona 955iThe Daytona 955i has proved, over the years and miles, that balance is everything. With large amounts of horsepower comes the need for finesse.
Hello everybody, just joined the forum. I finally found a site that talks about the Daytona 955i, and right out the gate I have a question for ya'll, just got my daytona 2004 SE leftover 0 miles problem is I went for my FIRST ride (18miles or so) parked it for aprox. 10 days when I started it she began to burn motor oil and leaking oil thru the exhaust (no coolant). Fine, shut it off and the next day there was oil on the floor from the exhaust!?? called dealer (2yr warranty) and it's being looked at now close to 4 weeks and they said it's done that they need to finish tuning. The question that the dealer is'nt answering is, WHAT'S CAUSING THIS ??? Since you guys know more about these machines than I do HELP ME! (BEEN RIDING FOR 20+ just got off a Bonneville, needed to go faster in my old age LOL!)
My guess would be a gasket of some sort. Bikes that have been sitting for a few years (as yours would have been, being a NOS '04 model) will get dried out gaskets and seals and such. When they're finally fired up, they can be more brittle than normal, and crack easily. If it's burning oil and you see the bluish smoke from the exhaust, you may be looking at valve guides and seals. But in this case, at least you can have the dealer deal with it, instead. Even if it takes a couple weeks, it's better than taking the thing apart yourself!

That was my theory, but after 3 weeks I got the bike back and they told me it was carbon build up (?) cleaned the valve train and intake system I would assume they replaced the gaskets and seals. I'm taking her out tomorrow for a spin and get the feel for it.Thanks for the time to help me out!
Did you actually post to the forum? Folks on that board have been very helpful whenever I've asked questions.
I have to second that it's a treasure chest and everybody are very helpfull.
I highly recommend you join in and introduce yourself there.
I hope your bike is fixed so you can start to enjoy it

Thanks guys, but couldn't post simply because they can't use hotmail or G-mail as e-mail conformation, but I got some info out of what I read. I got the bike back and it's running great (the starting routine has me baffled{5 tries before she starts}dealer says thats normal??) Anyhow thanks very much.
{5 tries before she starts}dealer says thats normal??
Ummm....that's not normal. Are you waiting until the little red light and gas light come on (after you turn the ignition on) before you try to turn it over?
also, not sure if you're doing this, but there are occasional "issues" if you use your kill switch vs turning off the key. when you switch on, you shoul dhear the fuel pump pressurize, don't hit the starter until it stops (count to three).
other than that, no. it's not normal.

I would take it back to the dealer and tell them not to call me until it is all fixed as new. I would also tell them to hurry the fuxk up. It's more than likely a simple fix, but with simple minded mechanics it could drag on forever. It should start on the first attempt.
I will state what the other have already tried. Ask questions at Triumphrat.net. Those guys are insane knowledgeable about all models of Triumph. If the dealer doesn't get it fixed soon, I would call a Triumph rep. and get goofy with him about the whole deal. Sorry bout your dilemna.
I've gone through the whole routine, don't touch the kill switch, turn key. listen to the fuel pump, wait for the idiot lights to turn on and push the starter (its getting better ONLY 4 tries now )I called a very knowlegeable guy at PJ's Triumph in NM and suggested that since the battery was sitting so long with the bike that it might not have or mantain the proper voltage needed to start the bike properly, I'll check it out monday, again thanks a lot guy's.
