Default Maintenance with the 675?

I'm starting to research upgrade bikes and i've narrowed it down to either a GSXR600 or a Daytona 675. I have a buddy that tracks a lot and he told me to stick with the Japanese bikes as the maintenance and parts (not aftermarket) are more readily available/cheaper then a Triumph/Euro bike. Is this generally true? I know for cars that parts/maintenance is more expensive for Lotus then say Honda etc. Now when i mean maintenance i dont mean oil/airfilter changes but tranny/motor/electrical issues. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

-David

I've ordered nearly every part for my aging 955 before, and it comes in just as fast as the items for all the other 'big four' did. Triumph's dealer and parts network in the US is very organized, I've never had a problem getting parts when I needed them... I just rarely need them as these things are nearly indestructible.

Lol.... i'm always responding to threads right after you are, it's hilarious.

But yeah- every part i've ordered from Triumph has come in within about a week, usually a lot less. And certain dealers will ship them to your house for the same price.

The older bikes had some Tranny issues, but that was the first year they made them... and after that everything has been pretty damned good. And from the stories i've heard, if Grashopr's bike lasted as long as it did, you can rest easy knowing that these things are made pretty solid.

If the 675's are built like the 955's were... you'll be hard pressed to blow one up. I went out one night with the sole intention of blowing up a 2001 955 and couldn't get it done (and it's not from lack of trying...). They really are bulletproof.

^^^ Thanks for the input guys, i appreciate it. Seems like it is just as good as any other manufacturer. Now i'm really leaning toward this bike for the next one!

Parts are more expensive than the Japanese bikes. This is just mass manufacturing bringing the price down.

The GSXR is a better bike for a next step. Far more forgiving and much bigger dealer network. The 675 is not a next step bike.

If you want the 675, go for it. Its my first bike and I havent had any problems what so ever. Totally exciting machine. The extra money in parts isnt substantial, and worth the exclusitivity of this bike.
