Don't get me wrong, I love being single. I own my condo, bikes and car are all paid off, and have all the toys I can ask for. Not only that but I don't have to answer to anyone when I come and go and when I stay out all night. I have complete control of the remote...lol. And I have some of the best friends a person could ever ask for.
But there are times I feel like there is something missing in my life. It's mainly when I'm out with friends that have significant others and I feel like a third wheel. I hate doing things couples do but by myself. I also really like to go out and dance. I'm supposed to be planning a night at Vision (a club downtown Chicago...I know the DJs g/f) for my WI peeps but I'm taking my sweet time because I don't have anyone to go with.
I don't date a whole lot for a number of reasons...a g/f of 7 years cheated on me and married one of my best friends from college, the last two women I either dated or was interested in had issues with lying, I find it hard to find women that are on the same intellectual level as me and are interested in the same things, and my job takes me away from home alot along with long hours (ie I was in Chicago today and again next week).
So I was just wondering what some of the other single people out there feel about being single?

I enjoy it immensely for a while after every relationship, but the newly found freedom gets dull after a while. How does having a girlfriend impact having toys? I mean sure it takes some money sometimes, especially for the chivalrous types, but having a girlfriend doesn't change the fact that a guy needs some cool shit.

How DOESN'T IT impact having toys? My ex of 7 years didn't care for my bike at the time (F2) or the fact that I bought a brand new car cash in hand. We were planning on getting married, but she wanted the biggest ring of all time and lots of jewelry, etc.

being single has good pluses and bad negatives, nobody to be bitching at you, control of the remote, freedom of going out whenever you want to where ever you want to and so on, but after being single for a while your hands get tired and start to cramp up

Well I enjoyed being single while it lasted, I knew better than to be with my current bf, Kevin, before he left for Iraq back in 03 because I knew for 1: I had a lot of growing up to do and for 2: Because of his MOS(MP/SWAT sniper/spec.forces) I knew he'd be there for a long time, which ended up being from Jan 03 to Nov 04. When he came back I had already been dating someone for a year and a 1/2, we seperated after what I call a "conflict of interests", but I took the time to figure myself out, focus on my career, and grow up a little more before contacting Kevin again. After I broke my arm I contacted him for the first time since he'd been home, trust me its not fun being single when you're going through something like this, and I wanted to have someone around me who already knew EVERYTHING about me. Though I am young I am ready to settle down, like you Moses I have a tough job, but with my tough job it has forced me to grow up quickly. Kevin will be 23 in a month, he is young also, but through what he has experienced in the military these past 3 years he is also ready to settle down. My biggest bunch of advice is find someone who can TRULY relate to you as far as job stress goes also, it helps a lot b/c theres not this overwhelming feeling of "you just don't understand". The more you can relate the better, and there really are girls out there who are anti jewelry. My bf was trying to talk me into liking this 10k engagement ring he had picked out for me and I said ABSOLUTELY NOT! 10k is a damn down payment on a house, thank God I understand the value of things or he'd be screwed . Going out everyngiht to clubs will not find you the right woman though, not saying all women who go out clubbing often like that are bad, but they usually aren't ready to or willing to settle down. Look for women who are already establised with a career and a steady home life, and if she likes bikes than thats a big plus too !!!
I hated relationships in hs, but now I kinda enjoy the companionship of a female. It helps that my last gf was extremely cool. We had a lot in common. Music interests, I turned her into a sports fan, etc. In alot of ways she was a better/closer friend than most males I know. Plus the fact she was hot as hell and religiously on birth control was great.

I split with my last wife almost 9 years ago and havn't had anything serious since.Sometimes it bothers me but I take a look around up here and when I'm down in the states, they (women) really don't have anything to offer anymore.
So what if they have a crack between thier legs,it's not like you can't walk into a bar room any night of the week and pick up drunk slut to get your rocks off.Really.Other than that it seems all they can give you is a piece of there mind and when I want that,I'll ask for it.
I think women have forgotton how to be a woman, they would rather act like how they think most guys are and they think that because most are to busy hanging out in the bar rooms.
My 4 cents anyway............Flame away women,I'll take it with a grain of salt untill you can show me otherwise.

Your word is all you have in life that is truly yours. Guard it carefully and be something noble.
Do what you say you'll do, be there when you say you will. This is called integrity
I like being single while in school makes life easier and less stressful (if thats even possible with my major). However, Brian a word of advice while your looking for a gal, dont even talk to ones that dont own a pair of white pants! Ill be back home before X-mas and be there for a month, we should get some beers.
ive been with my girl off/on for just about 2years. ive had some change of heart here and there and wanted to be single and go wild, but after breaking up with her for a few weeks or so, i realized that no matter how much i want to go out and go crazy, it's not worth it. she's been with me through good times and bad, and no matter how much of an asshole i am at times, she sticks with me. she doesnt deserve a lot of the stuff ive put her through, but she has stayed with me and there is something to be said for that.
I like being whatever I am not. If I'm single I want a G/F if I have a G/F I want to be single. I am never content. Right now I have a girlfriend and it's driving me nuts but if I break up with her I'll miss the benefits having a girlfriend provides. I'm hopeless.

Moses, dude, your past and my past read the same. If I were to post the question, I'd have done so saying just about the exact same stuff you did - except that whole crap about liking dancing. Homo.
AC - My current outlook on life is just as you described it, though I doubt western Kentucky is nearly as pretty as Alaska -
