Default 929 vs 954

Alright guys,

Ive got a 2000 929 currently, and am starting to want to trade up. The peak power seems to be at about 7-8K, and then it drops off quickly after that. The bike does not like going anywhere near red-line. Has any one ridden both a 929 and 954? and are there any major power differences or are they similar bikes?

Similar. The 954 has more midrange that can be felt (I've ridden both), but don't trade up thinking it'll be alot faster.

Yours should definitely run hard near the top. If not, fix what's broken. How many miles? Valves checked? If out it makes a huge difference to adjust them. Plugs/ air filter may need changing.

If it has a stock pipe, just changing that, and a good dyno tune can give upwards of 15 hp

But yeah, newer liter bikes will run away from you, if that matters.

Theres a lot of differences between the two bikes, but I fully agree with Bob H. You should have more top end than that. Have it checked out.

If you are absolutely set on getting a new bike, because your 929 just isn't fast enough ... don't get a 954.

If you think that the 900 series of bikes that honda made are the greatest bikes in history (as well you should), then get a 954. It's a fantastic machine.
