Default 16,000 mile service

I fired the bike up this morning and it was running rough. I then drove it to work a couple of miles and it sounds like it is running on 2 cylinders. So I called the stealership in the next town over and ask about getting it in for warranty work if needed. He says that it is probably fouled plugs.

I mentioned that it ran fine yesterday but I will need the 16,000 mile tune up soon. He said to bring it in and they would diagnose the problem.

How much should this cost to have done??

I figure they adjust the valves, change the plugs, change the filters, oil and service the fluids. Anything else I should know about?

I am guessing $500.00 .

I would guess higher if your valves need to be adjusted.

Had the service done at a dealer out of town because the morons here don't even know what a motorcycle is. The total came out to be $558.70. He ran through the parts and I did not notice an air filter in the bill. He said its not needed on this service. I explained that it was. He went in the back and came out and said we wont charge you for it, but he did put it in. I looked the bike over and did not see any damage so off I drove the 45 miles to my house. I get about half way home and notice the tempature is going up. 200-210-220-230-240....I pull over and call them. They said they did not have anybody to come pick up the bike, just drive it here. I explained that it was overheating badly and they said if it blows up it will be covered by warranty. I was stunned to say the least.

I manage to get it back to the shop and the service manager came out to look at it. He notice the tech did not plug the fan in so it was not operating. He plugged it in and I just told him to keep it overnight to go over the bike good. He said there was no need to. He then said that the 954's run 225 degrees normally if sitting in traffic. I explained that my bike has NEVER seen 220 even when sitting in bike week traffic at a stand still. He said don't worry about it and proceeded to assure me that everything was alright.

I told the manager to write down on my ticket that they left the fun unplugged on it resulting in it running hot, in case there are problems in the future.

I rode it home and it seems OK but I am going to go over it with a fine tooth comb and pull the air filter out and see if they replaced it.

Guess I need to look for another service place. It is bad when I cant get good service within an hour from my house. I have a maintenance guy here in town that I trust but he does not do shim and bucket adjustments.

Any ideas in the north central florida area would be great.....

Wow, sorry for all the hassle.

That is the very reason I did the 16k service myself . If it gets screwed up, I know who to blame . Plus I like to learn by doing!

You should be OK, but it's good you got the info on paper for backup
