who has done it already, and what was the mileage when you did so? Did you take it in and how much did it run you?
Im at 14750 and my baby has a little valve noise that goes away after warm up, but this just started at about 14500 miles.....so Id like to head it off before I break something.
I took my bike in two weeks ago to have the valves done (at 16500, I'm now at 17500) and the mechanic called me before doing and said....it would be about $350, if you don't have problems with the valves there really is no need to do it (don't have any problems with mine as the bike is only 2 yrs old). He added that the valves in bikes are similar to indy cars they are +/- .006 so it is rare for them to need adjusting. I don't know if he is full of shit or not, but I didn't have it done. That's all I know about it, if you find out anything, I'd like to know, because I have talked to a few people about this and they just scratch their head....No body knows!!

I agree that it is "insurance", but it's going to run you some money unless you do it yourself. I am only at 6K and change on my bike and I will sell it before I get to that point so I dont know what it costs.

thanks for the advice, they deffinatly making noise, my bike spent 1 race season on the track so it was run pretty hard, and Im doing my first race in september so I want to make sure its at 100%.

I would take it in then and have them checked. Just to be safe. It will cost you a few bills, but if you are going to be pushing your gal you want her at 100%.

Checking them is easy, you can do it yourself if you're patient.
Adjusting them is a whole 'nother matter: You need to pull the camshafts off, which is a freaking can of worms.
I'd suggest you check them yourself, then you'll know: Either they're all okay, and you can button it up and ride away, or one or more is out of spec and it's time to have a shop adjust them.
