what ever oil you use make sure it is motorcycle oil.

Motorcycle oil is a good place to start.

My shop-guy recommended Motul 300v. I think that for everyday street riding it doesn't matter, just follow the manual. But otherwise, you're going to find different answers everywhere.

Motorcycle oil only. I think your machine uses 10W-40. The Honda GN4 lube is decent. HP4 is the synthetic blend (which I use on my machine).

My friend's cousin read about somebody on the internet whose bike blew up because he used car oil.

I assume you've got a wet clutch. Using car oil with friction modifiers will probably not be good for the clutch. So use motorcycle-specific oil. Anything carried by the local motorcycle dealer will work well.
If you want a really good oil to take the best care of your bike, then use Amsoil or Motul.
