900RR to 929RR
Hi,
Haven't posted on this part of the forum before ...
I've had a FireBlade 900RRW for about 5 years now, and it's been the 'most complete' bike I've had in nearly 30 years of riding. It's been brilliant, 100% reliable and has done everything I've ever wanted it to.
But, It's a 98 so getting a bit 'long in the tooth' and I've been thinking of a newer bike for a while, and I've first option on a 2001 929RR with 1500miles on it. It's the 'right' colour (Black/Titanium) , and it's immaculate.
So what will I notice that's different between a 900RRW and a 929RRY ?

THE 929 IS A GREAT BIKE, I'D RECOMEND ONE.

I can't tell you what differences you will notice but I had a 88 CBR for years, and just stepped up to a 2000 929, And the technology alone has changed so much it's unbelievable.
Had my 929 about a year now and I could not be more impressed. The 929 is an awsome bike. Smooth shifting. feels light as a feather well balanced. In my opinion I have yet to find a flaw, good luck

The 929 is much more "refined" than the '98. More power, but less rawness, if you know what I mean.

less dive in the front end with the 17" rim compared to the 16" of the 900.
if you can though, I would try and find a 2002+ 954. A little bit more power never hurts

i know this is old and dead, but would you care to give us a review comparison on the two bike now that you have had some time to get familiar with your new bike? im looking at both bikes right now, i fell in love with the 900rr a while ago but thought about the age, so now im considering just jumping up to a 929. how is the seating position, is it changed at all? overall feel difference?

Ok mate I'll have a go ..... ...
Handling : The 929 feels more 'neutral' and a little bit 'better balanced', the 900 (as it's got a 16 incher on the front) tips into corners quicker and just feels a bit more 'flickable' than the 929, especially on tight country roads. Having said that I prefer the 929 as it feels more stable on fast sweepers and generally just more 'neutral'.
Performance : Not a lot in it, both are stonkingly quick bikes. The 929 feels like it has more midrange, such as rolling on the throttle in top gear on a motorway (from 70ish to 120+ for example). Accelerating hard the 929 is again probably quicker, but without being a total nutter there's not a lot in it...both go berserk at around 7K revs.
The 900 is smoother though, especially at slow speed, and the 929 has a very tall 1st gear, which is a bit of a pain when you're trickling slowly through very heavy traffic, and it needs a bit more throttle than the 900 to get under way...I notice this most when I've been on the 900 (still got it) and get on the 929 and it sometimes bogs down a bit setting off, the gearing on both is standard.
Comfort I find the 900 more comfortable, the 929 is slimmer and the bars are slightly lower (I'm 6' 1" in my socks and about 13 stones). Also the 929 is physically a bit smaller. Both of mine have 'double bubble' screens and I get more wind blast on the 929 (therefore wetter when it's raining).
Overall I 'think' I prefer the 929, prefer the styling and the handling, but the 900 is a bit more comfortable. I'd like the 929 even more if the 1st gear was a bit shorter, also the 929 is a bit rougher when starting and at slow speed than the 900.
Hope this is of use ... and here's my two, the 900 is currently for sale.

thanks for the comparison, it will help me decide between the two when the time comes. Ultimately it looks like the deciding factor for me will be the deal itself, if i find a good deal on either(relative to avg market price) i will go for that one.
thanks!

I don't think you can go wrong with either bike tbh. I've had my 900 for nearly 6 years and it's got over 30,000 miles on it and absolutely nothing has ever broken on it, no bulbs, no fuses, nothing, 100 % reliable, and so far the 929 is the same.

Got a fully built CBR 600 F3 and absolutly love it but...just not fast enough. My dream bike is a 929RR but I also wouldn't mind a 954RR? In the opinions of others, which is better? Thanks, Squirrel

I went from a 1995 900RR to a 2000 929RR and they feel very different. Neither bike is stock, tho... I'm still getting used to the 929, so I'll have to give a full review later.
