Default Oil Filter Issue

Alright so I know some you of on here have the new 07 600RR. And I'm roundin the corner to 600 miles on mine and I need to change my oil . But I cannot find an oil filter wrench that will fit the new oil filter.

Little back ground - I went to my local honda dealer and they told me that honda has a new company doing their oil filters and the new canister is a different size. (Also the 600RR oil filter is different from the previous years CBRs.)

Does anyone know where I can get a oil filter wrench that will fit the new oil filter? Do you know what size oil filter wrench I need to get? Has anyone else had this problem?

You have a couple of options....

be manly and grab the damn thing and twist it off, it should only be very snugly hand tight.

Or bash a screwdriver through it and turn it.

Then when you put the new one on, dip your finger in oil and rub it around the threads of the new filter and around the rubber seal of the new filter (this will aid the seating of the seal and prevent damage to it or the threads) then tighten it on there very snugly with only your hands.

Default Screwdriver does the trick...

The '06 filter may be different, but it's still a bitch. I ended up with the tried and true screwdriver method. If you find a wrench, post it, it may fit my ancient '06 as well.

I use a strap wrench. (Don't know that if thats the actual name for it.) All it is is a handle with a piece of rubber. What you do is wrap the rubber around the filter and then gription holds the wrench in place as you turn. I think I got mine at walmart for less than ten bucks.

They also make little grapnel-looking things that have three arms holding the filter and tighten with a ratchet. Check auto supply stores. You kind of have to figure out what space and swing clearance you have to work with; varies a lot per bike.

I always liked the K&N filters because of the 17mm nut welded to the front - last night went to change the oil in the ZX-14 and stripped the nut edges off with a box wrench! Kawasaki specifies a torque of like 20-30 ft-lbs for the oil filter for some reason. I finally got it off with a professional application of Vise-Grips and profanity, but no way I'm putting another one on that tight.
